How does this contract affect our ability to keep our own players? I don't think that it does in any way.

You do realize that they do not have to get to the salary floor? If they don't reach that floor they spread the money around to their other players under contract. They have to spend the money but do not have to use their flexibility to do so. So they do not HAVE to spend 1.6 million. They will have to pay it to somebody but using the money to sign players to get to the floor is NOT REQUIRED. If they don't give out contracts they don't lose flexibility. But they will be paying the money for virtually nothing in this case.Jesus ****. People on here and twitter talking about breaking flexibility.
Do these turds realize that there's a salary FLOOR of $56.7 million that that Jazz have to get to? There's a reason the contract is what it is. Even with that they still have to spend nearly $1.6 million.

Long story short they do not have to hurt flexibility and with this contact they have. I'm not against the contract just pointing out that people who are have a valid point.

He's now even worse on defense and a lot older. So sure, lets get Mr. Foul Mouth and tell Enes, "hey rook...take a seat on the bench."
I tell you more...we should have kept Carroll, draft Antetokounmpo instead of Burke and let walk Hayward!
Anyway 2 years $10 million for Booker sounds too much...we could take Dante Cunningham for the half of those money!

I still am baffled as to why Carroll wasn't retained. He seems like the perfect teammate and just a guy every winning team seems to have.

It doesn't mean we can't keep them but assuming Kanter and Burks get 11M each (I don't think they'll get that much but...), it really pushes us close to the LT for about what, nine or ten guys.

Booker's deal according to Locke is only partially guaranteed. I realize the Jazz didn't need to get to the floor; the shortfall just gets distributed to the players on the roster if they don't. If DL wants to make a deal Jazz have a nice array of salaries to trade. If the Jazz need the space, they can cut Booker for a small amount. Needed another big and Booker is one of those young vets who still has upside. He's tough, being added to a team that played soft.
Seriously, I think the Jazz are set to go with who they have. Only ?'s in my mind are Burke and Kanter. One of those can be addressed in the draft. I don't see Utah making the playoffs just yet, but they should come close, so let's call it a late lottery pick. The backup PG - if Burke can't improve his shooting - might be solved by Neto. Hayward gives Utah the flexibility of adding either a 2 or 3. And at this point, I'd say the rotation of Burks/Hayward/Hood is looking pretty damn good. Favors/Gobert should be a solid rotation at the 5.

Unfortunately, I think this is the case. If they plan on bringing him over at all, it's next year or bust. And they need to start laying the foundation now so they don't have to pay for a buyout clause on a new contract. This is his last year, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to re-up him to make money off his eventual jump to the NBA. Even though this is a weird year, I'd still probably be trying to bring him over for this year if possible.
I'd rather have him under contract for three years now and pay a little more this year to cover the buyout, than risk him getting a new contract and never come over. I think he'd be an excellent fit for what the Jazz plan to do under Snyder.

It's called a tank. DL wanted the Jazz to have an awful bench. Sure, the Jazz could have retained Millsap, Carroll and Foye. Then what? They still get Burke and Gobert. But Utah does not get Hood (no cap room to take on the GS salaries). Instead of Exum, the Jazz likely draft in the 12-22 range depending on whether or not they can sneak into the 7th/8th pick range. Retain Millsap and you HAVE to trade Kanter. He's the odd man out and not going to be happy sitting on the bench for the next 5 years. Or you have to let him walk next season as Paul likely got $10M to stay. Can't afford to have a backup making starter money. No biggie, he sucks anyway. Jazz draft someone like Payne or McGary to be the backup PF (Payne if they miss the playoffs, McGary if they beat out the Grizz for the 8th seed).

Carroll
Millsap, Payne
Favors, Gobert
*or start Burks and Hayward with Carroll off the bench
Either way, does that lineup EVER compete for even home court in the WC?
Also, remember this is the pre-Quin Carroll we're talking about. He was a high-energy sub, but not really starter quality. Working with Snyder is what made him a solid starter.
This is a great signing, $5 mil a year for a great backup rebounding machine.
