Jazz Trading JLIII, Murphy for Carrick Felix

Exum 6'6" with an 8'7" standing reach.
Burks 6'6" with an 8'7.5" standing reach.
Hayward 6'8" with an 8'7" standing reach.
Felix 6'6.25" with an 8'7.5" standing reach.
Hood 6'8.5 with an 8'7" standing reach.

All between 195-215 lbs.

And they all look a like...weird.

I think it is ironic we now have 5 players on the team that are very close to the same size.

How did DL do this? This guy is a MAGICIAN!!!

I wrote a draft article about Felix last season and wrote the following about drafting him using our second round pick:

"This is the guy I want Utah to draft! I love Felix’s game. To begin, he’s a defensive stopper. That alone makes him intriguing, especially since he can play both shooting guard and small forward. Also, Carrick has dramatically improved his three-point shooting (37 percent his senior year). I’m going to say it — this guy could be a Bruce Bowen-like player. I’m not exaggerating. Of course, there are setbacks to this comparison, as well: Felix isn’t a complete shooter, as one would expect a shooting guard to be, and yes, I’m aware Bowen played small forward. Also, like Bowen, his free-throw shooting isn’t the best (66 percent his senior year — the lowest percentage during his college career), but I genuinely feel he’s worth the pick based solely for his defensive prowess."

Good call. I really wish one or two of those guys had more elite length for a sf.

We should have pushed for first round pick, instead of second and $1M. Having in mind that Cleveland need this trade much more than we do, and it helps them get where they want to be in order to be able to trade for Love. Plus a team with Love, Lebron and Kyrie would probably give us one of the last 3 picks in the draft, so it's not like even a first rounder is too much.

A first rounder is "too much" for the Cavs to give up because the Cavs could have dumped salary with another team without giving up a first round pick. Need to think about counterparty alternatives. Jazz were smart to capitalize and get assets.

Besides the fact the Jazz may have actually WANTED Felix. AS kabenac pointed out, he was a pretty good prospect coming out of college. His draft profile states he was usually put on the opposing team's best wing. Even stated he sometimes defended the 5 (but obviously that won't happen in the NBA). I imagine he can probably guard three positions. He could very well develop into a very effective "3 and D" player. Cleveland had a plethora of wings last season (Bennett, Waiters, Gee, CJ, etc.), and Felix broke his kneecap, so he didn't get much playing time (I think 7 pro games and 9 in the D-League - something like that).

No, this isn't a ground-breaking trade. But IF Felix proves he can be an effective backup, it gives the Jazz flexibility. After watching Hood play in the SL, I think he and Hayward may eventually be the starters. SO maybe Burks gets a big contract the Jazz decide not to match. Who knows? What is important is to just have a bunch of players in the pipeline for trades, in case of injuries, etc.

I'm really excited about this trade because it means the Jazz don't have a single player currently on the roster that I don't want to see play.

Usually there are a handful of guys on the roster that I never want to see on the court, but not anymore. There is something to look forward to, and be excited about from every single player on the roster.

I can't wait for this season.

Hadn't thought of it that way, but yes, so far all 12 guys could contribute in one form or another.

My guess is the Jazz pick up a 3rd PG. Bledsoe is still available.
JK, maybe they don't "redshirt" Neto another year. It will probably be a veteran, though. I know Clark was playing a bit at that point during SL. Guess he could be back.
And Motum probably makes the team as Exum's translator.

My thought wasn't necessarily that they can all contribute, they can, but I was more referring to I find all of them are entertaining to watch.
