2014 College Football

I think he was saying that his defense was hitting hard (true) and playing physical (true) up to that point. And they knocked a couple of QB's out of the game (also true)

Thier problem has been scheme, poor tackling (not wrapping up), penalties, not getting to's, missed assignments, and speed.

All of which bronco had acknowledged at some point

Interesting.

I wonder how Cougar fans would feel if Matt Wells went on the radio next week and and beamed about how his physical defense knocked Hill out for the season.

Why would we care?

I believe that every coach in the nation tells his defenders that when you have a shot at the qb, hit him as hard as you can (cleanly).
And if a player drills a qb and knocks him out of the game, I'm certain that the coaches give that player an "atta boy"

This is football after all.

Bronco was being questioned about his teams lack of sacks....... he answered by saying that they have been hitting the qb's a lot but always just a little late (right after they got rid of the ball) he was using the fact that they have knocked qb's out of the game as evidence that they have been getting to the qb despite the lack of sacks.

Definitely not as big of a deal as you want it to be.

I understand how football works and I'm sure every coach in the nation smiles inside when they see the opposing QB getting carted off. I just find it odd/poor form that when Bronco is questioned about lack of sacks, his go to is basically saying: "Well the sacks haven't been there but we are knocking QB's outta games".

I guess it bothers me because I've seen a lot of plays under Bronco's tenure in which defensive players seem to lead with their heads with the intent to inflict harm. In other words: I think Bronco coaches dirty and there's a decades worth of film to back it up.

And before you dismiss me as somebody on a witch hunt, I hated BYU during the Lavelle and Crowton years and never felt like the players were coached to play dirty. Not to mention the fact that there's several other fan bases and even some fellow coaches who think the exact same way.

I've never heard of a defense at any level that wasn't taught to smash the QB. I was like a heat seeking missile coming off Paul Kruger's blind side. I wanted so badly to smash him. Likewise, I'm sure he couldn't wait to smash our QB. Of course, we kicked his *** and sent his team home crying. He is now a millionaire and most of us are now working 40 hrs per week for normal wages...

I'm quite certain that it wouldn't matter the coach, and you being a ute fan and byu hater would be bitchin about something that perceive to be unfair or dirty about byu.

Bronco is the current coach so he is the one drawing your criticism currently. That's fine, I know that is how some ute fans are. (And some byu fans are too, the thriller)

I tend to not being up every little thing about the utes program. But that's just me and I don't expect you to do the same thing as me so continue with your rants of all the things byu does wrong while not criticising other programs.
It's all good.

I do believe that if byu were so dirty and trying to hurt players that they would have more players ejected.

So far they have one player that was ejected and after the game the officials reversed that ejection and said they got it wrong.... But whatever

Like I said, never felt that way about past BYU coaches, but why should I bother? You obviously know what I'm thinking and why I'm thinking it. Props to you, that's awesome.

Did you just really play the "I played HS football card"? Lol, this thread just keeps getting better!

I have often heard players from byu opponents talk about how they found it a little odd that byu players would help them up off the ground during games and pat then on the helmet while telling them "nice play" and those types of things.

I think byu are like most teams..... occasionally they make a dirty play, but most of the time play within the rules. Just like pretty much all teams.

Ute fans are going to notice, and remember, the dirty plays by byu players more than they do with other teams because of the rivalry. That's normal, and it's ok.

Chiefs fans think Broncos players are dirty.

Ohio state fans think michigan players are dirty.

And so on

Fuamatu-Ma’afala said that he had to wear specific protection for his penis during BYU games because Cougars would try to injure him there after plays, in the pile. He said he had never experienced that kind of thing before.
