And, also, it wouldn't be NBA Labor Laws (the NBA doesn't have the ability to make, you know, laws), so much as the NBAPA union contract.

"Jazz" is actually referring to the organization as a unit. So using the singular verb is perfectly acceptable.

I guess it comes down to how you interpret "the Jazz".

I would say "Are" as in "Are they".

For it to sound right to me I have to be more specific when using is: "Is the Jazz organization", "Is the Jazz franchise".

EDIT:For some reason this doesn't seem to apply across the board in my head.

Is the military, Is Mcdonald's, Is France, etc all seem correct.
