Realistic expectations for Exum, our future star

Seriously, you do realise he isn't trying anything outside of what he's being asked to do ? If you think he's dribbling up court and passing off to just get rid of the ball then you're on drugs. He's sticking to what is being instructed and the plays called. I'm as frustrated as anyone as him not utilizing his gifts, but here's an idea ... how about the dumbass coach does something creative like call a clearout for him and tell him to take it one on one ? Or clears a side and put him in a pick and roll with anyone who isn't a big spaz offensively ??
It's excruciating watching some of the "passing game" that has no purpose and results in clogged spacing and nobody with any idea of what they're doing except Hayward. We suck and at this point i put a lot of it down to the style of game being played.

This is what I would term complete and utter garbage.
 
Both Hayward and Favors are slowly turning into something good, and I still see flashes that they could be great. Not holding my breath though.

And my point is?

I'm willing to be patient with the coaches and FO while they develop the players slowly, and hopefully the right way. That being said I still want to see more pt for Exum, and Gobert even if it means less for Booker and Ingles even if I like them both for different reasons.

While I too am frustrated by Exum's timidness when it comes to driving and creating, I don't see the same aimless passing you do. I see screens being set and players going to definite spots on the floor after passing off. All too often, though, the screens are not utilized and the Jazz are missing wide-open shots. The Sacramento game was a prime example. No one could hit.

To me that screams personnel changes in the off-season. I think the future is with Gobert inside, Favors at PF (he has a good mid-range game) and then three shooters. Trey HAS to be replaced. And I think the ultimate place for Alec is off the bench. Jazz have the money...I'd go hard after Matthews. Offer him Hayward money, which by the time the increases in the cap are fully implemented, will be an average contract for a guard of his caliber. At worst, Portland has to step forward and offer him a comparable deal. If not Wesley, go after Carroll, a very good "3 and D" player. Hayward is capable of playing guard; he comes out to initiate plays quite a bit as it is. Having a 6'6" PG and a 6'8" SG with a 7'1" center would create havoc. That's a lot of length - and arms - getting in passing lanes.

Just a few changes would make this team contend for the playoffs next year.

coming from QuinSnydersHair i'll take that under advisement.

So how do you rate coach's in game adjustments to rotations, opposition plays, players hot on the night, nightmare matchups so far ?? Oh wait, he doesn't make any ....

Yeah you would almost have to MAX Matthews which would be a LOT more than Hayward in order to pry him away from Portland who are contenders at 16-4. That isn't going to nor should it happen. Dude is going to make more than Parsons, I just see Portland paying that without blinking knowing that when Lillard comes due, Matthews at 17 million is tradeable. . .

Wouldn't matter. Appears we're dealing with a Puerto Rican Carlos Arroyo fan type poster, so no amount of basketball talk will convince you the player is at fault given you want a coach to call an isolation play for a nineteen year old with current questionable handles, a severely inefficient play, or think Exum never gets opportunities in a pick an roll when that's what the offense is based on, getting a scrambling, non-set defense into an on ball pick situation. Hood, Hayward, Burke, and Burks have had no problem finding a way to initiate offense in the exact same offense, which is basically a 3 wing-2 big set.

lol i'll take it you're fine with how effective the sets are at the moment and the adjustments being made as each game goes on and we stink it up more and more. Are you comfortable with the offense producing a lot of jump shots when our players are poor shooters at best ? Happy with seeing Kanter shoot long range jump shots constantly ? Do you think the players are playing hard all the time ? At the moment i see lethargy and confusion. Are you not at all concerned that our level of play seems to be gradually worse compared to the early part of the season ? I've followed the Jazz for 20 years btw thanks for the impressive "basketball talk"
