Having no clue, I chose pipeline since you mentioned soil. I would have chosen "in-ocean" otherwise. After rereading, I'm going to guess tankers.

One of the reasons I can afford to take half the year off every year is because I invested a lot of my savings into BP right after the big oil spill and their stock plummeted. :) Granted, my savings as a college kid wasn't anything to significant but it's turned into enough to fund my choice of being a part-time ski/snowboard instructor and full-time Jazz fan!

I voted for train collisions/leaks because.

I'm gonna go watch There Will Be Blood

I should have included another category for storage/refinery accidents (although that would not have changed the answer).

I'll post the correct answer after the poll closes.

Why with the poll? What's your agenda here?

I voted pipeline because I think you are against the proposed canadian pipeline. This would fit a narrative in opposition to it.

I like that currently the poll is in the image of a middle finger which is rather apropos for this agenda driven thread.

Largest on US Soil was from an on-land drilling rig in 1910:

Second largest is from the in-ocean rig Deepwater Horizon, much of which washed up on the Coast:

By contrast, while pipeline was the most common answer, the most volume so far doesn't even come close:

It's not even as much as the Exxon Valdez (or several other tankers) spilt, and falls behind a few refinery accidents.

Kudos to everyone who didn't even bother to register their thoughts on the topic, but thought themselves sufficiently knowledgeable to discern my motives, nonetheless. You revealed yourselves.

From the time they get it out of the ground, to the time it goes into your tank.....and EVERY STEP in between, petroleum is polluting the earth!
