derrick favors trade speculation

I think Favors has been a better midrange shooter than Kanter this year so far. Of course Kanter has bit more range and has a bit more gravity, but it's not like Favors/Kanter are that far apart when it comes to midrange shooting. I won't be surprised if Favors is a corner 3pt shooter towards the end of his contract.

Before the year I didn't want any part of any trade talk involving Favors. I see him being the next Jermaine O'Neal. If I recall it took him 7 years to develop into a star

Now with Gobert emerging and Kanter looking like he's maturing, I'm open to the possibility of trading him

But with all that said it's going to have to be a kings ransom of a trade.

First I don't think Favors is done improving. He's been good this year. He's starting to develop a jump shot, and think his J will be further along next year. Think next year could be the year.

Second. He loves it here has a great attitude and doesn't seem to care about needing to be in a big market team.

Third. Is there a better contract in all the league other then guys still on rookie deals?

These things in my opinion says we can't just trade Favors just to trade him. Even if we are offered a nice draft pick. If I were gm I'd be open to trading him, but not likely as teams probably wouldn't give up what I'm asking for.

Would also add that while Hayward is having his best year, and has emerged as the leader, favors in my opinion is the franchise.

Flame away losers...

Yep. Favors talked about going out to three point range earlier this season in an interview. I think favors is awesome, and still has 3-4 years of improvement before he peaks. It would have to be a huge haul to trade him.

There are two reasons that you'd consider trading favors:
.
First is trading for draft picks. The idea of a mature player for draft picks is what San Antonio believe(d) in because they had a big three who were expensive. George Hill was good, but couldn't afford him and was a similar piece (pg at least) as Parker. We don't have a 'big three' or equivalent that we are trying to pay and a known spot to fill so trading favors in this manner not likely.
.
The second would be that because you have a valuable asset that you can trade for a valuable asset who fits better. This scenario is much more likely. It is not clear that Kanter or Favors is better with Gobert. So it possible that one of Kanter or Favors is considered redundant. (Due to financial limitations.) Jazz don't have a glaring hole at this point (all players are too young to know that - and I'm all-in on Exum), so barring some crazy offer, I cannot imagine Favors gets moved.
.
Finally, Favors appears to have all the elements that fit the new Jazz system AND he likes Utah, Utah likes him. So an even further out prediction is that Favors will end his career in Utah.

George Hill being traded for a draft pick is different than Derrrick Favors.

Yeah, I think Boston has Brookyln's 2016 draft pick unprotected. That is a pretty good pick.

Perhaps. But you can male the playoffs in the EC with a record <.500. And then that pick is #15 at best.

I think we're done accumulating assets. Jazz need an 8-9 man rotation. We have that:

Bigs: Favors, Gobert, Kanter
Wings: Hayward, Burks, Hood
PG's: Exum, Burke (Neto?)

Jazz will also be adding a likely top-10 pick in the 2015 draft and can add a mid-tier FA. That's potentially 11 players, not counting 2nd-rounders (or Booker). Jazz simply do not need to keep throwing darts and picking up backups. Short of a deal which brings the Jazz an all-star, DL needs to pass. The focus is on trading multiple assets to acquire a player like Harden, not on trading a starter for picks and prospects. Everyone advocating a Favors trade is undervaluing Derrick. He's a fringe all-star and has improved every year. Besides there are 96 mins. at the 4/5 (not factoring in injuries). That requires 3 players at 32 mins each. With Favors gone, who plays 25-30 mins at PF? Booker? Look at his mins as a starter for Washington. He's a scrub. Porzingis? We're putting that much hope in a rookie? What if whoever we draft is the PF equivalent of Trey?

Any trade that returns less than an all-star caliber player is a lateral move at best.

They have a lot of assets and none of them makes sense for us. They have absolutely nothing that we can use in our current stage of rebuild. What are they going to give us for Favors? The only trade for Favors I want is for another borderline all-star or a top 3 pick in a draft where we really like somebody. Right now they can't guarantee that.

what about Horford?

Anyone notice that Kanter and Horford are putting up very similar numbers? I know Horford plays better defense, but Kanter is getting better at it.
