I'm not saying the Jazz need to trade Kanter, but I'm guessing he'll get offered something in the $11M - $12MM/year range in free agency. That's a lot to match (depending the new cap structure), assuming the Jazz want to start Favors and Gobert in the front court.
So one question worth asking would be if we want to flip Kanter for a deal based around Tobias Harris and pay him instead. (I'm assuming the Jazz would inherit the right to match him as a restricted free agent and would inherit his bird rights.) This more or less assumes that the Jazz would start Hayward at SG and Harris at SF, with Burks and Hood off the bench. Harris and Kanter both have a PER in the 18 range. Both are 22 years old. Kanter probably has more upside potential.
Harris is known as a mediocre defender, especially against quicker wings.
