Daniel Leroux from RealGM and Arturo Galletti BoxscoreGeeks discussed the progress and situation of series of team in the NBA in the last RealGM podcast The Jazz part is at 55:20. Some key points:
+They both like the Jazz' potential
+They've noticed that since Christmas the Jazz are No. 8 team defensively. They attribute it to Gobert getting more minutes
+Galletti(a fan of Boston) said "There isn't anything on the Celtics roster I wouldn't trade for Gobert".
+Exum is not ready, but they think he will be good
+They think we need more handle and better perimeter defense
+Suggestions for our picks - dream case Towns, or perimeter defender Winslow
+They think we should trade Kanter and like Kanter for Reggie Jackson package
+No young team has a better situation than the Jazz, according to Galletti.

Yep, outside of Jazz fans, the rest of the league seems to think our future is bright. Here is a thread where fans from around the league rate the bad teams with the brightest future.

I like Utah's current pieces the most. Exum, Favors, Gobert, Hood and Hayward is a great core that should be improving and peaking for quite some time. Alec Burkes seems like a pretty ideal 6th man. Trey Burke and Kanter have potential but I think they will either steal minutes from guys or not get enough to develop. If they can trade those two before the deadline for some assets and hit on a draft pick they will be deep and have tons of assets going forward. A good stretch 4, backup PG (who can help with Exum's development) and some wing defenders off the bench and that team should be fighting for a playoff spot in 2 years.

2. Utah - Kanter, Favors, Hayward, at 22, 23, 24 should all hit their primes around the same time if they keep that group together. Exum hasn't shown much so far but extremely high ceiling. Burks & Burke both look good, Burke really broke out when Burks went down for the season, averaging 16.5 & 5 so far in January. Gobert looks like he'll be good. Then they have the other rookies besides Exum who still have the potential to break out like Hood, + another lottery pick incoming this season. They are loaded with young talent.

I think Minny/Utah are kind of 1 and 1a. A healthy Rubio could be the difference maker. I'm concerned about Orlando but I'm willing to reserve judgment until they get a new coach. They don't really play as one unit and they aren't talented enough to play as five individuals. I'd have a couple teams listed ahead of them.

Did it kind of quick, but left Orlando off because I'm sure I'd put them too high anyways. I like Utah's assets and the ones I don't like have good-great value.

As for the best future I will go off non-playoff teams at the moment

1.) Utah-Favors is really good they have a solid cast with Kanter, Hayward, and Burks. Plus they have ridiculous upside guys in Gobert and Exum. Add to it that they are in the west and not winning that many games they should get another nice pick.

As of right now I would say Utah. Favors/Hayward/Exum/Gobert/Kanter etc. is a really talented group.

Rudy Gobert is that one guy the Utah Jazz have had that significantly outplayed his projectory. He is the only guy that is better than he had any right being. I remember hearing a interview with a Atlanta Hawk guy (I think it was on the locked on jazz website) a couple of years ago in which he said that Al Horford is the one guy they had that is better than he should have been out of both NFL/NBA teams. Gordon Hayward is the only other guy since Millsap that fit this description for the Jazz.
 
I think Favors has beat anyone expectations as well. His offense is light years away from where it was two years ago.

Man the Orlando fans are just PAINFUL to read in those forums. I don't really care anything about Orlando, but I am growing to hate them and their insistence that they be taken seriously. Sucks too because I LOVE me some Aaron Gordon. It seems like every time there is a thread that says something positive about the Jazz youngsters they have to show up selling their players. Were we like that during the Chris Paul- Deron Williams days?

Favors is on one of the best contracts in the league. Just an absolutely underrated monster. . .

They are extremely defensive about pretty much anything Magic. Any slight criticism is viewed as grave assault on their team. They seem super insecure. Cherry picking stats is elevated to an art form to fit their agenda. You should have seen how quick they abandoned their boos after their picks in the draft and started defending it and even mocking Exum's performance in the Summer league. Lol!

ABSOLUTELY
 
I don't think anyone knew how good Gobert, Haygod, and Favors were going to be this year. But in retrospect I kind of wish we had put better supporting players around them. I mean we probably aren't making the playoffs in the West under any scenario this year, but these three are getting good enough I wish they had a better supporting cast so we could see them win and be pretty competitive and grow in that way. Next year I think that should be the goal.

Of course, biggest question mark going forward is Exum. If he turns out to be good we're going to be really good, if not...

Fair enough, but this is just the beginning. We have those players around them, its just going to take a few years. This next stage in the process is going to be fun. Our primary guys are going to start producing and our secondary guys will continue to develop. Its an upward trajectory from here. When is the last time weve been in a home grown rebuild like this? Not since Stockton and Malone? I think were embarking on a long ride with the current group and im glad to have seen it from the beginning.

Burks will be back next year, DL will sign a good free agent. Exum will improve. Hopefully we can land a top 7 pick.
I think we will be looking at +10 wins from those factors, but its early.

It's interesting to me that you didn't include Burke or Kanter in your assessment. I'm fine with both of them, but I've also gotten to the point where I hope DL looks at trade opportunities that packages one or both of them along with draft picks to land a young wing with the potential to start with Hayward and also free up enough cash and cap space to make a run at Goran Dragic and DeMarre Carroll this offseason. Also think they should just shut down Hood for the rest of this year and have him focus on getting healthy and strong for next year. Give his minutes to Exum at the 2 and have him work on his off-ball skills until you pull off the aforementioned trade for a new wing.

Gobert - Favors - Hayward - Starting Wing - Dragic
Burks - 2015 draft pick - Booker - DMC - Exum - Hood - Jingles - Neto and maybe another big depending on who they draft. . . that's a pretty good lineup, that turns to an amazing one if they beat the odds and jump up in the lottery and get a shot at Okafor or Towns.

That's 13 players. The Jazz can financially pull that off, as well as have the assets to make a big trade to address the issue of needing an

I don't wish this had happened at all. That would have meant less time for our youth. We couldn't have asked for everything to unfold this season any better than it already has.
 
I actually thought favors would be much better than he is currently when we made that trade. My expectations were WAY to high for him.

I had zero expectations for Hayward when we picked him and even through last year I only thought he would ever be a really good role player. He has exceeded my expectations by miles.... I have become a huge fan of him.

Gobert is about what I thought he would be if given the minutes. After going to the scrimmage last summer and seeing him up close and watching him dominate the glass, show tons of energy, tenacity, nastiness, and leadership, and especially the way he covered everyone else's *** defensively (he was all over the court defensively at that scrimmage) I am not surprised at all by how his game is progressing.

These three are all studs and I still believe that Burks is going to surprise alot of people with how good he will be when it's all said and done.

Here's to hoping exum gets there in the next few years
