What's new

The official countdown til Dragic thread.

I'm not sure I'd only protect top-10 this season. There's a good chance the Jazz end up in the 11-12 range and the prospect pool is pretty good even that late. Best I'd offer for an UFA with less than a 25% chance of staying is the worse of the 2017 picks. But Suns aren't going to want a pick that far out.

Dragic is a great player. But bringing him in results in more wins and puts Dante back on the bench...unless you move him over to SG. Just not sure you want to mess up team chemistry and dynamics for a player who is extremely unlikely to remain.

I don't think the Jazz need more players to develop. We have enough. Exum is 3+ years out if he keeps playing like this, so there may be room to resign Dragic. I'd be happy if Dante could move back to the bench. Either way, we need a strong 3 rotation... Exum/Burks/Dragic would be good. Plenty of minutes for those three.

Will Kanter & Black Jesus be enough for Dragic?

I would even do Kanter and our unprotected GS pick.

A lineup of:

Dragic/Exum/Burke(if not traded)
Burks/Hood/Ingles
Hayward/LilSap
Favors/Booker
Gobert/Tomic

is simply too good to pass up.

If I'm Dennis Lindsey, here are my priorities for the next three years of this team:

- either trade for Dragic (my preference), or toss him a three year max contract a la Hayward.
- trade for, or offer Kris Middleton a 22 million/3yr contract.
- retain Booker
- Bring Tomic over

If Exum becomes a star, we can trade either Dragic or Burks. Black Jesus, unless initially traded for Dragic, can be our Microwave. Tomic is about as ideal of a third big for this team as I can think of. Booker gives us toughness.

I'm really hoping that Hood gives us Middleton numbers. It's really huge for this team-- we really need shooting desperately. It would be serious ca-relief if we didn't have to go for Kris.

Trading for Dragic without a guarantee to re-signing is beyond retarded.

I wouldn't trade Kanter for Dragic straight up without a guarantee. All it does it artificially inflate our record for half a season.

Dragic will get 15-20 M per year this offseason. He will be one of the hottest names on the FA market and a ton of teams will have space. We have no damned hope of keeping the guy if we traded for him... None.

Anyone citing the Iguodala and Bynum Howard deal in saying sometimes you need to take one year chances and hope for the best needs to review the results of that deal. The winner of that deal was the magic and it isn't close.

I'd rather have Isaiah Thomas with his low budget deal than take a chance on Dragic.

Lol.

You really love Kanter. You just won't admit it.

I agree though. I'm not trading Kanter for him either. Unless there is some promise from him to re-sign.

We need to target someone on a rookie deal or draft picks.

Getting Dragic could supremely lower the value of our upcoming pick + he could leave after this season. It's a stupid trade, IMO, and I'd love to have Dragic on the team.

Would you rather have Dragic and UK's Booker? Or Super Mario (or perhaps Black Messiah if we jump into top 3) or Stanley Johnson or something.

somebody should look into how often UFAs end up staying with the team they were traded to midway into their final seasons of their contracts.

I'm really of the opinion that Quin and Dennis could really sell Dragic on Utah. Especially with the role he would have, and the pieces around him.

What makes Dragic stay on the team instead of going to LA (who are reportedly very interested in Dragic)?

I like Dragic, but I would be hesitant to offer a soon to be 29 year old PG a max offer. PG's are very abundant in the league. Dragic isn't even top 5 at his position, maybe not even top 10.

Only teams who trade for guys like that are teams that are confident they can keep the player they trade for.

It would be far more likely that we would have just Booker compared to getting Super Mario or Stanley Johnson. Like Cy said, no guarantee that Dragic resigns...in fact, more probable that he goes elsewhere.

Honestly, I know very little about Booker aside from what's said about him around here.

I'm a fan of Johnson. I think he'll be able to contribute on the defensive end from day one.

I think Dragic is a great fit here. I just think the risk of him perceiving a better opportunity elsewhere is really high.

Ok, if I were the jazz and I could offload Kanter for the right deal (i.e. one that banks some value for him), and open up cap space next year in the process, then I'd fully support targeting Dragic in the offseason.

(Also, I really don't see why Phoenix would be that interested in Kanter)

You mean besides the fact that our team is way closer to actually making the playoffs, and not being in the lottery abyss for 4 more years.

Going to Houston would mean a smaller role in offense for him. Utah is one of the best fits for him.

gotta risk it to get the biscuit sometimes.

How certain are we that mario and johnson are better than booker?

The bigger max contract with 5 years and 7.5% raises is the only thing Utah has to offer over other markets. And as you said, I don't see Dragic as being a max-caliber PG.

We aren't. However their ceilings appear to be higher. They have better physical tools, with a pretty high skill level.
Ya, I really like what I have seen of mario

stop being numbnuts. we don't need a PG, we need a shooter and defense. smd.

I just salivate at a combo of Exum, Dragic, and Hayward-- with Burks off the bench, and Booker from the draft.

What are your expectations of Hood moving forward tho. Think he'll become a knockdown shooter from distance? We keep forgetting about him.
