1. The floor is irrelevant.
2. Novak is still on the books next season.
There was no need to get to the floor, and no need for Novak. Why let him eat up nearly $4mm in 2015 cap space for a 2nd? It was a bad trade (FWIW, I thought so at the time).
1. Exactly, so it was kept irrelevant with the bonus of acquiring a small asset.
2. 4 M by itself is inconsequential. Can add up with other stuff, and, as shown, was an easy move.
Valid point on RFAs and offer sheets. Still, if the Jazz don't get an offer sheet signed, they could always keep Kanter. Also, since this Kanter mess has reportedly been brewing for a while, it makes sense to question what the Jazz could have acquired for Kanter earlier in the season or this past offseason. DL has a pretty consistent record of waiting to do anything until his hand is forced. Not a great sign.
Also, your numbers seem a bit off. I did a quick breakdown of the Jazz cap situation earlier in the thread.[/QUOTE]
I'll take the FO at its word that it believed in Kanter. I do think keeping Kanter over what the trade ended up being value-wise is slightly better, but not amazingly so. I remember reading reports somewhere that the market for Kanter has always been tepid.
My numbers were quick summations of Sham and Hoopshype, since neither of them have the act together fully. You should link to your post since I'm not traversing 25 pages.
Here's what I got:
Hayward: 15.5
Favors: 12
Burks: 9.2
Exum: 3.777
Burke: 2.6
Hood: 1.3
Gobert 1.1
That's 45.5.
Add 5 for Booker if you want to keep it. Cap hold on Evans and Clark is 4.5.
Kanter's cap hold is 11.4.
Novak's salary was 3.75.
Cap expectation of 66.5.
