How you become a Jazz fan?

I wanted to post this thread long time ago but the timing wasn't right. I think it can be an opportunity to know each other a bit better. After the Kanter trade and emergence of Gobert I perceive that most people here is quite optimistic about the future so let me ask you.

How you become a Jazz fan?

I get asked this question a lot when I'm talking hoops. "Why Utah? Why!?" You don't get to see Jazz games on cable TV in Peru. For me it started in the mid 1990s. I enjoyed watching the Pistons, Pacers and a few others teams and then I came across the Jazz. I loved the hard screens, defense, passing, offensive execution, toughness and the crowd at Delta Center. Stockton, Malone and Jerry were badassess (and S&M played a bit dirty too...has anyone found Dirk's teeth?). The finals in 1997 and 1998 were hearthbreakers but the Jazz had already won my soul a few years ago. So I kept rooting, harder during the bad times.

On a side note. In 2006 I decided to travel to SLC and attend a game. I wrote an email to the Jazz PR telling my story and they told me to come over to meet the team. I couldn't believe it. So I flew from Lima to SLC. I met the whole team (Dwill, Boozer, Millsap, Okur, Ronnie, etc) except AK (you know, he used to stay in the locker room reading books before games). I tried to talk to Jerry but the PR guy advised against it haha. They also gave me souvenirs and signed them all. So I would have to add that I also love the Jazz because they are an A-class organization.

I'm curious. What about you guys?. You live in the area and is the team to root for? Do you have good memories with your dad going to the Delta Center? Was it the Stockton&Malone era? Was it mad love for a player (akmvp, heavinharris, cakar...)? Does a player from your country play or used to play here (to those turkish, australian posters)? Is it the Jazz dancers?

I was not following the Nba so much in the Stockton&Malone era...but at that time if somebody had asked me which team I sympathized in Nba, I would have answered the Utah Jazz.

I began to follow regularly the Jazz games when they drafted Kirilenko....he was my favourite player.

Jazz used to be a team that drafted international players this is another reason why I became a Jazz fan.

I blame my parents. They wrapped me up in Jazz gear before I even knew what it meant. Brain washed me into becoming a fan so that I could grow up wasting hours on a jazz forum talking to people I don't think even exist.

AK was my first Jazz jersey. So fun to watch him during his prime, almost like what it's happening now with Gobert.

Are you from Europe?

I am doing this to my kids in the future lol

I moved to Utah in 2005. My very first jazz game was dwill's rookie year. I still remember him making half court shot in that game. Started watching Jazz game ever since. Then, somehow became hardcore jazz fan. Moving to cali makes me like jazz even more. Seeing lots of ****ty lakers fans really made me support jazz more.

My first and only game was against the clippers (Kaman, Hart, Mobley, Maggette). Lame haha. We owned them then.

There is nothing better than watching a Lakers fan suffer. From sweeping the lakers in 1998 to watching them now sinking with kobe. Lakers fans are delusional. Somehow they believe the team will be a contender in the next few years. You know, because they are the lakers and top talent always want to go there. Good luck...

I was born into it. I'm 27 now, and I remember watching the glory days of basketball with my dad. I kind of fell out of basketball post Stockton & Malone era, and didn't get back into the Jazz until we had Fisher and went the western conference finals. Been back and die hard about the Jazz ever since.

Moved to Utah for college in 1988, was on a mission from 1989-1991 and started watching Jazz basketball in 1991 or 1992. I've been hooked ever since, even though I lived elsewhere from 1994-2007. I think my first game in person was around 1997 or 1998, a come-back victory at the Delta Center against Vince Carter and Toronto where most of the Jazz fans left a couple of minutes before the game was over. Suckers.
