What's new

Gamethread: Jazz v Lakers. 7pm MST.

This excuse has to stop, there have been 92 other rookies 19 or younger, and Dante ranks very near the bottom of almost every statistical category among them.

Hell, a 19 yr old rookie Kanter who had barely played basketball had a 15 PER, avg 15 & 7 per36. --> for reference, Dante's PER is 6.6..

everyone talks about rookie-Kobe starting slow, but he still was at 17½, 4 & 3 per36.

We cant keep feeding him excuses, we need to expect bigger from him. We have too much invested in him not to.

It is mostly different though. Hope you can see that. Dante has not faced the competition most 16 year old AAU kids have faced up until this season.

I think the problem was Trey was playing his usual one-on-one and the Lakers started playing a match-up zone, and with Trey dribbling the ball instead of moving it around they weren't able to get good shots.

Yeah, Quin was royally pissed. You could see it in his wild expressions when the TV camera flashed to the bench.

Did you hear him shout something like "Trey - when you go in the middle - PASS OUT!!" ???

Yet Kanter did? Exum isn't performing or showing flashes of brilliance. Couldn't say the same about hayward, favors, gobert, or even burks

I got to wAtch a few minutes in the first half! then came back to see the results.

I'm not suprised by the loss, the first quarter the jazz let them stick around . They should have stomped them.

I remember Locke saying the jazz really liked clarkson, and might have taken him 23 if the Magic would have passed on Gordon to take Smart or Exum. He looked good tonight.

Hayward had 1 rebound and 6 turnovers. Is he ill? Or did the Lakers just rough him up?

I don't get why people don't understand this. Exum has basically gone from a really, really good junior high league to the NBA.

It's normal for him to be shell shocked. He is doing fine. Like DL said, he is a placeholder this year. The fact that he can hit an NBA three and make good passes is incredible.

Jabari was up for runaway rookie of the year...scoring like 12 pts a game. And Exum is a lot further behind development wise.

Before you bag on Exum, remember what he did to Parker and how he looked in that first quarter.

I was there.

Jazz clearly read their headlines. No one other than Millsap and Gobert bothered to show up.

Boozer and Hill kicked our asses. Burke is a poor man's JR Smith. He can either shoot you into a game or out of one. G, Exum, Favors, and Jingles looked hungover. Especially Jingles.

Just one game

this loss is on the players for lack of execution, particularly on one key aspect : FTs. With an 80% success rate instead of 60 this game is a victory. EDIT : of course the team taking care of the ball in the 4th instead of going on a TO rampage could have helped too...

No biggie though, the team is growing and learning, those last 25 games are about Gobert and Favors becoming the starting frontcourt and getting used to each other and their role, about checking if Trey as a 6th man is workeable concept or not, etc...

Alec Burks, out for the season with a shoulder injury, still working on his shot before each game. Fighter.

Jazz win. Lakers do not score more than 65

I missed you Colorado Bulldog... :(

Snyder continually said they were weak minded and they chose to blame someone or something instead of reacting by getting tougher.

I didn't see the game. Was there something between one of the players and him? Any bitching? Gordon? Trey?

The point I was making is that a loss to a garbage team shouldn't be cause for panic and definitely doesn't mean the Jazz might as well tank the rest of the season.

I doubt it would. The Jazz were beating the contenders and losing to suckers all season. The only spark of hope in me for this is that Quin is the right character with winning obsession to teach these guys the lessons they need. Kick their asses.

I thought Kanter was the scapegoat Cancer?

Only thing I noticed with Hayward last few games is he seems to be getting real pissed AND letting it bother him when he drives to the hole and gets no call.

Seems to be new strategy defending Hayward, rough him up and see if refs blow whistle.

Trey and Rudy had words near the end of the game - they had some sort of miscommunication on an offensive possession.
