Why Do People Make Such a Big Deal about Voting For President?

This might be a dumb question. But I don't get why some people make such a big deal about voting for president. It doesn't matter who wins the popular vote. The delegates decide who becomes president. Can someone help me understand why the people even vote? It doesn't matter right?

Why are you making such a big deal of this?

Because I've never voted for president and people always give me a hard time about it. I just don't get why it's so important to be able to vote for POTUS. A persons vote for president is infinitely more inconsequential than who they voted to be class president of their high school.

You do understand that a state's delegates go to the person who won the popular vote in that state, right?

Wow. I think I finally get it now. Haha. So even still, essentially, you can win the popular vote and still lose the election. I think we need to get rid of the electoral college. It doesn't seem relevant or necessary in 2016.

A minute ago you had no idea how the process works, but you already have thoughts on what changes are needed?

People should always try and vote for the loser. That way, if the president is bad, they can complain and say they didn't vote for him. And if the president is good, then that's good for everyone so it's a win win.

Just a piece of advice for you guys.

This thread exemplifies America in a nutshell. People are pissed off and have an opinion yet have no idea what the hell they're talking about. Let me guess, Batman is a Trump or Johbson supporter? They tend to have over simplified solutions for very complex problems.

I have no problem getting rid of the electoral college and going to a straight popular vote. The GOP would never sniff the White House again without serious reforms to their terribly unpopular and exclusive platform. Had the electoral college never existed, GWB, would've never been.

People need to feel good.

I dont understand why we waste years on elections before elections even happen. We spend hundreds of millions of dollars in campaigns where candidates talk about wasted money, and helping fix things. The irony is that the money used to promote this **** show would sure be a great start.

I don't understand why people pay so much attention to national politics, when local politics has a much more immediate and substantial affect on their lives.
