Should we go big? Adjustments for game 2

Obviously, this 17 warriors team is superior to the 07 team. But both have similiar strengths and weaknesses. If memory serves, their perimeter game was incredible. Don Nelson had those guys playing fast and shooting 3s in an era that still had slow tempo and big men. However, we wore them down by pounding it inside with Boozer, Memo, and Millsap.

I wonder if a similiar strategy could be used today?

I wonder if going big would give us more of a shot? Gobert and Favors/Bolomboy at the 5 and 4? It might help us to control the paint and boards. It could also screw up our offensive spacing. But I don't think we can stand pat at the 4. We either need to go big and pound the hell out of them inside like what we did in 2007 or combat their stretch 4 with our Lyles (he probably needs some burn this series).

I don't think Diaw has the athleticism to last in this series and I question how effective Iso Joe will be due to their superior length and athleticism. I'd up Exum's mins, at the very least his length might prove to give the warriors offensive problems.

Obviously, I don't think we win this series. But as far as adjustments go, what do you think about this?

The only way to steal a game is to own the glass. I was surprised how small we played. At times we were smaller than they were.

Jazz were slow footed and were over played by GS.Jazz need someone that can attack the basket if the ball isn't moving crisply.I thought Rodney Hood showed that was possible in the 3rd quarter.

Durant and Green both rebounded well. Jazz have to win the rebound battle to have a chance. I liked how they attacked the paint later in the game. That helped limit the Warriors transition opportunities. Felt like in a game where pace will contribute to the outcome, the Jazz let the Warriors get out and run too easily. They have to do a better job of that in game two, or this is going to get away from them.

I agree with this. They were obviously the superior team tonight, but the difference in the game was point off of turnovers and fast break points.

This is so tough. This is why we are just fans and not coaches. Making these decisions will be really really tough. I hope our coaches adjust well

We did own the glass. We had a 88% defensive rebound rate. It's too risky to try and own the offensive glass, that will give up far too many fastbreak points. If Favors was completely healthy we could risk it, but none of our 4's are strong enough offensive rebounders for it to be a good bet. And we didnt do poor on the offensive glass overall. We finished with 8 for a 20% offensive rebound rate.

Overall it feels like both teams played fairly bad, but it felt more like the Warriors only tried for about 15 minutes of the game and just played to our level for the other 33. Kind of disappointing because I'd rather see high level competition and not the Warriors coasting.

Their fast breaks start with a rebound. Rudy only had 2 offensive boards. That's a big part of his game.

I'd have to re watch the game but I don't think QS told Rudy to get back. I think we probably just didn't put him in a good spot .

Well yeah, you want Rudy to go the offensive glass. The other 4 have to get back.

I also think fatigue played a role in this game. GS looked fresh. The Jazz looked a step slow.

Never going to beat GS playing a way they have perfected ie small ball.

I still think we managed to slow the game down to our pace but they executed really well. More film, more Exum and maybe Favors starts...

I think it's fair to say we are not going to beat them in a seven game series. We just aren't. Knowing that, I don't think it can hurt to try to start Faves (if he feels okay) or at least sub him in a little earlier alongside Rudy to see how that works. Likewise, we should experiment in other ways as well to see what works, what doesn't work. Maybe not yet. Maybe save all this for the 2nd half of game 2 if it's ugly. But it really can't hurt and I think is a good experiment of sorts to perform for us to look back to for next year and the year after.

That said, and somebody said this earlier in this thread, GS just looked much, much quicker to me. Up and down the court. Penetrating. With their passes. With their ability to catch and shoot from three. It's scary really. Almost unfair. For us, this needs to be addressed this off-season in many ways. We just aren't athletic enough. We need a really athletic 2/3 who can defend and hopefully create a little and shoot the 3. That's not Burks, sorry, and I don't think Hood isn't athletic enough. We could also maybe use someone like OG Anunoby who is both athletic and strong as hell and has some offensive ability and the potential to perhaps offset Draymond, Kawhi, and their ilk in the years to come. Or maybe the kid from SMU but he's really only a 3/(maybe 4) strong, athletic combo. All this is for another day once the series is over though.

I think X should play more (and mack less) and Lyles and bolomboy should get some minutes (less diaw)

Call me kamikaze - but I'd play Lyles.

Heck I'd almost start him :)

It is the only genuine rabbit Q can pull.

It doesnt really matter who they get, they will have to play near flawless basketball to ever beat the GSW. They could pick up another top 20 player and they would still be behind talent wise. Maybe if the Jazz can somehow luck out and they can get CP3 to sign with them, but that is the only realistic way I see us really scaring the Warriors.

Going big just makes us slower. Instead of scoring in 4 seconds they will score in 2 seconds.
