What's new

Ok...Now what?

I knew this was coming freaking years ago but nobody would back me. We should have gotten a pick for him last summer. But we lose players for nothing...

Now, we look to play the kids. Take a salary dump by sending out JoeJ and Favors. Get assets. Our future is still so bright.

I was saying trade Hayward for the Boston pick last year. Draft Buddy Hield.

Moneyball. Try to figure out how to replace his production (especially offensively) for as cheap as possible. Still look at upgrading at PF if possible. Hope for a jump from Hood and Exum and Mitchell. Play great defense. Play as a team having fun. Rudy is now the unquestioned franchise player for the Utah Jazz. Build around him.
There's production, and there's efficiency.

The Jazz aren't replacing Hayward. The concept isn't a thing.

Seriously blow the damn thing up. This is stupid.

I've said it throughout the years... Whenever Hayward has been out, the Jazz have been FINE! With that said, I hope the Jazz make a trade with Charlotte and bring Batum over.

Blow it up? You could draft top 5 for five years and still not get a player as good as Rudy.

Either

1) Keep the team together, sign some veterans to replace him, finish 6-10 in the west every single year... And eventually probably lose Rudy and rebuild.

Or

2) Burn it down. Trade all of the vets and big contracts except for Rudy for assets. Let Rudy and the young guys run the team while we retool with assets, cap space and hopefully decent picks.

We DESPERATELY need to do #2. But knowing the Jazz they will probably do #1. The future went from extremely bright to f***** in the blink of an eye. We were so close to a championship. It's so frustrating.

Burning it down now would be a total bitch move. Such a complete insult to the rest of our players, especially Rudy. It's just not an option. It will be at least a year or 2 before they even consider it.

Take a breath, get over the shock, realize we have the force that is Rudy and see how intelligent Q really is. This is not the end of the world. Small market team trying to put out an enjoyable squad with realistic goals. All the hate for management will dissipate if they can work some magic and this team competes. We weren't beating the warriors with Hayward, but it was still fun to see them compete, and with Rudy as capitan, I believe we still will.

Why no sign-and-trade with Boston? Boston has to shed salary including Jay Crowder and Smart/Rozier... why not take 2 of those guys. I wonder if it will be worked out in the next couple days or if Utah has no interest in a deal. I would like Utah to get something for Hayward beyond hurt feelings.

Is it an insult to Rudy? Is it really? Or is standing pat, adding a few average players like Rudy Gay or Otto Porter and ending 6-10 in the West every single year for the rest of Rudy's contract the real insult? I'm not saying to do a complete 5-6 year rebuild. I'm saying to dump as many of our vets and big contracts as possible. Play Rudy and the young guys for a year. Gain assets, gain a good pick, gain cap space and if all goes right we'll be back in the hunt at the top of the West in a few years. You CAN'T wait 2 years to do this. By then Rudy is 27 and he'll be 29/30 by the time we complete the process. He'll probably end up leaving in FA too if you do that.

Boston has no reason to do that, when they could flip those guys for other assets. Our only chance was if Hayward wanted to save face and help us out by making it a condition of signing there, but as it turns out, he's a bigger dick than anyone could have guessed.

Hayward was a huge piece to lose. What happens now is this team will have to battle for a 7 or 8 seed, and get bounced in the first round for the next few years most likely. Just my opinion, but look at the west. This was a huge step back.
