Notre Dame on fire

The wife and I were planning a trip for France in the next year. Notre Dame cathedral was in my top 3 things to do, ahead of the Eiffel Tower and Louvre. I heard that the artistic details of the outside walls and the stained glass windows was breathtaking.

So sad

FYI, I personally am not offended by what you wrote, but if I just ignored you I would be part of the problem. That was the entire point of Korver's article https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us/articles/kyle-korver-utah-jazz-nba

Sorry, I completely disagree. A bit insensitive? Sure. But hate speech? Oy.

One of my friends posted a pic on Facebook this morning of his view from the Eiffel Tower in Paris. In the picture, you can clearly see something burning out in the distance. At the time, we both had no idea of what the fire was from. I learned about it on here. Crazy.

We went there in 2015. Glad I got to visit it before this happened. Amazing piece of history. Difficult to see this happening. Very sad.

It was a place for worship and where many would try to find peace, some, unknowing of the dark secrets of the Catholic church. Regardless of what religion it’s from it’s part of history, I would feel the same way if the Mecca was destroyed or the pyramids of Egypt, you’re being an *** here.
It is one of the greatest places I've ever visited, and I'm an agnostic. From the smell of the incense when you walk in to the amazing architecture, you could just feel the history when you walk in. I hope that magic is recaptured when it's rebuilt, and I'm glad the towers (at least for now) will survive.

Yep, La Sagrada Familia.
The other most amazing places I've ever visited, but in a totally different way. The reliefs on the building are absolutely stunning, and the stained glass interior is magnificent, but it has the exact opposite feeling of Notre Dame in the sense that it feels like an empty building that's not really being used (well other than the massive amounts of tourists that look in it).

Have you ever had your family starved and forced to leave their country because they spoke out against the church? So a cleric can sit in a temple made of gold? I have, I'm not going to pretend this organisation is anything but what it is. I haven't got a problem with Catholics just the church, place like Notre Dame serve to reinforce the power of the institution, the more diminished their power is in society the better for all of us.

so very tragic - - but it seems like it's not *quite* as bad as it seemed at first... hopefully this will be something to provide some unity because France has certainly had its share of unrest in the past few months

the Alhamabra in Granda, Spain is another iconic structure - - overall perhaps not as much grandeur as Notre Dame, at least not in an enclosed space - - it's really impossible to compare to anything in the U.S. because we just don't have structures like these that go back 1000 years

I’ve been to the Alhambra, an architectural gem built by the Moors when they ruled most of the Iberian Peninsula until the Reconquista happened. Spain is a crossroads of architectural influences from all the different cultures and peoples who have laid foot on her.
