Jae Crowder appreciation thread

Jae was a good basketball player and checked off a lot of important checkboxes for this team. I promise we are going to feel this loss. I am bummed he’s gone. I feel like we kinda betrayed him. He embraced this team like few do, and we sent him to a **** team. He was our enforcer and our best stretch 4, two things we now don’t have.

But I’ve gone and screwed this up, so I’ll start over:

I have been a Jae homer since before he was drafted. He was more of a Jazzman than almost anyone that’s ever played here and I loved it, whether his shot was falling or not. He had his teammates back every single time, he made big plays, and he wasn’t scared of any moment or anyone. So to Jae, if in some circumstance that you might ever read this, my sincerest thanks for what you brought to this team. You will be missed.

This. It’s the worst thing about this trade — the fact that we delusionally valued DedEx and Favors over Jae. If anyone should have gotten irrational love from the FO, it should have been him. At least he’s serviceable.

He kind of sucked. It's a weird feeling though because I did like his energy. Just kind of sucked tho.
Agree. Reminiscent of Trevor Booker. Loved the toughness and energy, but just not a good shooter. Crowder gave us 27 mins/per but only shot 40%/33%. He had a couple of good seasons in Boston, but the one time he hit nearly 40% on 3's proved to be an outlier. Seemed pretty happy to be with the Jazz; there was that thing about Utah finding a pair of his dad's shoes in an office or something like that. Seemed destined to be.

But just like Rubio, when you can't shoot consistently, the team has to move on. And you can't really call him a stretch-4 if he doesn't stretch the floor with his shooting. Niang could very well be an improvement offensively even if the Jazz can't find a veteran PF.

I wish him well.

How can anyone talk trash on Crowder’s shot and be a Favors AND Exum homer?

Edit: maybe you’re not one of them. I get you confused with R Mex.

Will miss his toughness"you can't coach that" and just being a great teammate. His 3 pt shooting was disappointing .

Jae wasn’t the best basketball player, but I promise you we are going to absolutely feel this loss. I am bummed he’s gone. I feel like we kinda betrayed him. He embraced this team like few do, and we sent him to a **** team. He was our enforcer and our best stretch 4, two things we now don’t have.

I agree but at the end of the day, execution is what wins and it’s not as if what he brought to the table isn’t very irreplaceable.

Re-sign Sef on the cheap. That’s a start.

Or send Exum in the trade instead.

Yeah, I’m going to be going on about this for a while. I would be very interested to know what was discussed between the teams.

I see both sides of the coin.

I hate Exum but he was starting to turn a major corner and his length/first step/decent skill is tougher to find than a stretch 4 at 40/33 imo.

Because Jae was mainly a spot up shooter, 65% of his shots were 3 point attempts of which 94% of those were assisted. Favors provides a lot of other things. Besides Favors is a better mid range shooter. Along with being much better defender, rebounder, pick and roll guy, and inside scorer.

Overall Favors is a much better player. Jae will be missed but we can find a much better spot up shooter from 3 at PF.

Can I like Jae and Favs?

1 - Thanks Crowder, it was awesome to have you on the Jazz! You were a great teammate, a spark, a great dude, and were tons of fun as a fan to root for. I'll still root for you wherever you are even if I don't root for your team. I wish you the best!

2 - I can say that and still be super glad that so far it looks like Favors will still be around. He brings some really good things to this team, and is a great guy too despite being in trade rumors constantly. I hope cryptictweeter 15 tears it up in a Jazz uni next year.

Never been an Exum homer, but I'm still hoping he can be a good backup PG. Don't think he can, but I hope I'm wrong.

AS for Favors, yep, I'm a homer. Would I prefer Tobias Harris? Yes. But the biggest need was to improve the PG position. Jazz have the best center rotation in the league. Derrick is a damn good PF, too. And the floor is stretched more now that Utah has three legit 3pt shooters. I'm not opposed to including Derrick in a trade. Jazz just need to make sure they have a decent 5 AND another 4 before they move him. And I'm dead set AGAINST Love. The guy is ancient.

Oh great. Midrange shooting. That’s the ticket.

And who are we getting that will take a fraction of $4.7 million that is a better player than Jae? And you know they’ll sign how? Will they hustle and D up also? Will they be the first to backup their teammates in a scuffle? Will they wear their jersey with pride?

Crowder is one guy I would give a standing "O" to on his return to play against the Jazz. I hope everyone in the arena reacts that way. He was the anti-Hayward at a time we needed that.

Did you watch the playoffs? The traditional big is dying, if not dead. The only reason you can justify even Gobert is for how absolutely elite he is at the things he does well.

Edit: I skimmed your post. My sentiment stands, but it doesn’t appear you’re irrationally attached to sunk cost. Favors is indeed a good player (a top-15 starting center playing as a PF).

Really enjoyed Jae in his time here. He contributed immensely, always had his teams back and was always a dog. Wish him well
