What's new

Bad Bench Bad Bench!

I also plead to Quin to try something new. When your new point guard, who is known around the league for being a very high IQ player, says that you need a PhD to run this offense then maybe it’s time to tone it down a bit. Simplify it. Give guys some plays that generate good shots and can be confidently run. Remember those backdoor alley oops to Hayward that were good for 2-4 points literally every single game? Those are the types of things I’m talking about. Set guys up to succeed like you have every year so far.

This. Basketball really shouldn't be that complicated. Sure, some have exceeded with complicated systems when they had the talent, but others have failed miserably at not adjusting a la Phil Jackson.

Our offense isn't complicated enough. Thats one of our problems. Almost everytime Quin leans on the single high screen the offense sucks. Players don't move, ball doesn't move, turnovers and missed shots galore. When we run more complicated stuff the offense looks good. Players are constantly moving off ball, the ball moves, we get good looks.

Sloan's (Dick Motta's and Phil Johnson's) offense worked pretty well too. Dick Motta won an NBA championship with it and Johnson was an NBA coach of the year with it and we know what Sloan did with it.

Thats the problem, the bench is just bad, and we lack any kind of inside game with davis and gobert. We really miss that favors inside bruising the opponents when all offense stalls.

Locke said in his podcast that OKC's bench played really hard and Davis, Green and Mudiday did not as that is not their style. That is very alarming.

Is the bench the only problem right now? Of course not. The offense is a bunch of selfish isolation mixed with dribble pull ups and a side of floaters. It’s disgusting. And the defensive effort and focus has somehow vanished, seemingly coming from the frustrations due to everything else.

I'm glad that this was also mentioned in the article. At least there was an acknowledgement about our starters too.

The starters are a bunch of selfish 'me me me's'. And a bunch of the starters don't care for defending. I really like Bogey, but his focus and general lack of defensive knowledge and IQ is so bad, that it makes you cry.

When the bench comes in it's even worse. Can't score, and can't defend. You're not going to defend a witches hat if you have Niang defending. He, like Bogey, has no defensive gravity to his game, whatsoever.

I'd love to be up close to hear if there is any communication from the players that are on the floor on offense and defense. I have noticed countless defensive lapses due to no communication, not a word. And when there is someone communicating, screaming for organisation like Donovan screaming at Bogey to switch, it doesn't happen because Bogey is in la la land, guarding absolutely nothing, and absolutely nobody.

Ummmm,I know that,of course
I tried to let Donovan & Joe lead the bench,But the effect is not good.
Joe prefers playing pick and roll with Favors, not Rudy and Ed.
Donovan is too young to control the game,He made too many mistakes.
Both Emmanuel and Dante are not good controller.
We need more playmakers,We need hustle players,We have to be more competitive!

Ed signing just didn't make sense to begin with. especially given how many years we've been developing Bradley. We should've prioritized PF signing over Udoh replacement with our only MLE.

The front office didn’t believe in Bradley enough. I thought it was a good signing... Ed was much better last year. Not sure what PF we were getting for 5M a year

The Ed Davis signing made 100% sense. The Jazz signed a player who has historically grabbed 4 offensive rebounds a game and is known as one of the best backup centers in the league.

Just because he is playing like poop on this team doesn't mean that the signing didnt make any sense. You're playing "monday morning quarterback", it's easy to say what they should have done after seeing the results.

Jeeze some people are dumb

A good signing if it wasn't our only MLE... Ed is nice but we've certainly got other priorities that we need to address
