When Conley returns...

Joe Ingles has been a big part of our resurgence imho. He has helped be the creator we needed. The floor general. The tertiary scoring threat. The tough guy. The stretch 4.

When he came off the bench we were lacking a lot of things that he brings.

So, when Conley comes back, would anyone dare start ingles over Conley?

Then let conley lead the second unit... This is something to consider if we want to maintain Ingles role in the starting lineup. It also instantly upgrades the bench without frustrating our starting lineup imo. Thoughts?

I think we can get more creative with what lineups we do put Conley in once he comes back (which may mean he playing more alongside bench lineups), but, at least from the start, once he's back, i see him starting and Royce coming of the bench.

Conley to the bench makes the most sense if we want to win more games. But we won't bench a 30M a year guy because of politics and because of Snyder.

And unfortunately there is no magical injury that can happen to make Snyder realize this the hard way like he did with Ingles.

We’ve only seen one game of Conley and singles starting and it looked good. We’ll continue with that and Conley’s return plus Clarkson makes our bench deeper, even with Conley starting, so we’ll look to get better sample sizes on all of that. The variables have changed a bit and aside from the fact that Conley won’t come off the bench, it’s silly to think him starting will hurt us. The bigger issue was refusing to put Ingles in the starting lineup.

I think you all underestimate the impact a healthy Conley will have on this team. This team is still figuring out what and who it is and that includes a struggling Conley. The teams been gelling more over the past 2+ weeks but we still needs his help to take the next step. That next step is Conley if he can get healthy and acclimated. He's not as bad as he's played nor as bad as our fana are making him out to be. A healthy Conley is a starter no questions asked.

I'd also like to point out that having Conley come off the bench does not necessarily mean a person thinks Conley is a bad player.

I think Conley coming off the bench as a 6th man would provide the offensive spark that Snyder thought Ingles would provide coming off the bench.

Snyder has no offensive game plan for the bench, so players that can dribble the ball well and score, like Mudiay and Clarkson, is what would help us the most. Conley does both of these things well and I think having the freedom to do whatever he wants in the second unit would also boost his production.

And I would still want Conley to close games out.

Conley isn't going to the bench. Royce is. And honestly that's probably the correct decision. The one game where we had Mike, Joe and Don all starting our offense looked great. The one game where Royce came off of the bench he played great. The bench really needs a defender/distrupter like Royce too. It will help Mudiay, Clarkson, Davis.

Conley returning does change the dynamic though. The front office should have figured out a long time ago that Ingles is a point guard. It took Frank Vogel about two days in his new job to announce that Lebron would be the teams starting point guard this season. Why is it so hard for the Jazz to think outside the box? As ridiculous as it sounds given his contract, Conley heading up the second unit makes the most sense. But a second unit of Conley, Clarkson, and Mudiay doesn't make that much sense to me either with three ball dominant combo guards. That's another reason why I'd like to turn Mudiay into a stretch 4/5 or even a 3/4 if possible.

Are we really comparing Ingles’ ability to run the point to Lebron’s?

I understand the politics of benching a $30 million dollar player, but ingles plays best creating with the ball in his hands. Conley is the same. I think that Conley off the bench makes to organize that second lineup. I doubt it happens but it may be the best team decision.

If not then can Joe lead the bench lineup? He didnt seem able to before.

Regardless, we are better with the ball in Joe's hands than in Conley, Mudiay, or Clarksons hands at least to this point in the year. I would close out with Conley and Joe on the court.
