pretty nice price drops, i thought they would wait for independent benchmarks!
because i am eagerly awaiting independent benchmarks.

Intel Core i7-6850K (3.60GHz) drop from $700 to $550, and the i7-6800K (3.40GHz) drop down to $360, from $500.Also, some mid-range chips are receiving price cuts as well. Those include the i7-6700K, a 4.0GHz chip dropping from $400 to $260, and the i7-6600K, a 3.50GHz quad-core part dropping from $270 to $180. Even Intel's latest and greatest Kaby Lake-based i7-7700K has experienced a drop, from $380 to $299, with places like Amazon and NewEgg retailing for $349.

gameface you should get the i7 6700k or 7700k as an upgrade over your i5 :D

personally for my main rig i will keep intel(because isrtaels invovlement into the intel cpu business)

For gaming neither of those is an "upgrade" to a 7600k. Especially since you can get a 7600k over 5GHz on air.

Okay, an update.

First, I had been running solid at 5.1GHz but backed it off to 5GHz which is where I plan to keep it. I have pushed to 5.2GHz and ran stable and passes stress tests. But it's not about overclocking in and of itself. I want stability and feel like long-term 5GHz is plenty of speed and comfortably below the limit for this chip.

I also made a small mod to my case to make it possible to mount my liquid AIO cooler in the back.

Really opens it up and doesn't hide my system behind a bulky AIO cooler.

I'll have to take an updated pic or two because I have it looking pretty good now. Better than these pics.

My son in law made me a custom mechanical keyboard. I recently added keycaps, trying for a jazz note color scheme. Check it out.

I know the light blue isn't perfect but overall I think it's reasonably close, and these are excellent keycaps (PBT double shot cherry profile) and I got a great deal on them. Overall pretty happy. Good conversation starter at work. IMG-20210913-WA0000.jpeg
