Lauri Markkanen Hype & Appreciation Thread

A. If you watch the games you know that he does have a mid range game though.
B. That is how nba defenses guard every player in the nba in todays game. Try to limit threes and paint points. So wouldnt be guarded any differently due to this information

I dunno guard him on perimeter primarily and leave a rim protector at the pain? I’m not a coach so wouldn’t know., hahaha.,

And this is why the Jazz are able to beat OKC with a depleted roster. Markkanen is a unique player. I am curious if the soft tanking will work. Markkanen has said that personally that he wants to make the playoffs.
It could be that DA intended to tank but Markkanen exceeded his wildest expectations meaning he now has to look at other options going forward?

Would rather see us getting into one series at least than being last one out from the post season. Odds from there to land a high pick are so low I think would be more valuale to see how Lauri does in the "real games". If he can throw 30 there with this current roster and score in the clutch as our #1... Ainge can start looking to trade for that #2 around him.

I believe in the 20 year rule. For elite players (except Giannis), you reach maximum intelligence 20 years after doing something for 20 years. He was a small kid when his dad was a professional. He must have first gotten exposure when he was 5 or 6 years old. I believe Lauri will get even better the next two to three and will peak and will be in the hunt for MVP.

It's almost given he is gonna be even better in the future without drawbacks. Game has started to slow down for him so it just becomes easier.

Great bounce back against the Heat after his worst shooting game this season. Shows a character.

Lauri is setting these wonderful numbers and STILL lacks some counter moves, ball handling in static situations and some play-making. If he improves a lot in one of those or a little it in more than one - the ceiling will be once again raised on becoming season. Will be an interesting look at him. We have that World Cup too before it so we are going to get some tasters there.

Foul baiting tricks aka. school of Butler would be great tool to have. :D

So, is anyone still doubting that he can be a Number 1 option on a Championship winning team?

Well as I said he still has few things to work on to get there. He is a bonafide #2 as it is but imo needs a bit more skills to create off-the dribble in static moments. Defenses going to be tough on post-season. At this point in some games he is magnificient in the 4th and like in this last game against the Heat, he resorted in lower quality shots when asked to create in the end minutes.

I believe he CAN become #1 but it is not a sure thing. He looks much better I thought with this role after just the short time he has been learning it. So he might get there. If he had to be NOW the #1 in the finals against the Bucks - he would struggle a lot.

I agree @Step-Back Hook. I even think he can be a 1a to another 1b. I have no doubt that he will get even better next year. The way he responds to bad games or games that they change the defense up on him has been superstar-esque. One area I think he needs to get better at is his passing out of the double team. Start watching some of that Joker tape ;)
