Lauri Markkanen Hype & Appreciation Thread

Will Hardy wasn't only Jazz staff member who did watch Lauri's eurobasket games even Danny Ainge watched those.

Is absolutely rare todays sport business how NBA team will copy that
how 5,5 million peoples small country's ( Finland ) national basketball team uses their star player ( Lauri ) and decide to bring it to NBA.

For those who don't know Hanno Möttölä.
Möttölä played NCAA basketball 1996-2000 in university of Utah.
Summer 2000 Atlanta Hawks drafted Möttölä 2nd round and he played 155 NBA regular season games in Atlanta years 2000-2002.
Today Möttölä is coaching Helsinki Basket Academy high-school team in Finland's men's 1st division he also is assistant coach of Finnish national team.

Maybe someone else Finnish poster can translate that artcile and Möttölä's interview video on English.
My computer skills and time aren't enough for that.

Not much new or that interesting in there - just Hanno repeating some of the points he's made previously.

Although the Finnish basketball federation and the Helsinki Basketball Academy now has to redo their "pyramid". All kids coming into the youth national teams and the academy are shown a pyramid that they want to help them climb as players. Pro, national team, Euro league, NBA, NBA All-Star. Now the top of the pyramid needs new levels according to Hanno :) Also, he thinks that Lauri will soon have (or already does) new personal goals: starting with making an All-NBA Team this season.

We are so lucky to have this guy.
Does anyone know about his contract details?
When can we lock him up long term?

After this season Lauri has 2 years left of his current 16,7 million per season contract which is ridiculously cheap for allstar player.
That will Lauri sign an extension with Jazz is up of that where Jazz is going as a team and are they playoff team etc 2025.

A lot can happen before summer 2025 so lets see.
But 2 years is not much time it is only 24 months and that runs out fast.

"I mean, I've never been an untouchable guy that can't get traded, but I've been traded before," Markkanen said. "It's good to hear that. It gives me confidence for sure that people in the building believe in me."

Good article. They are not giving away much about what route they take but they are consistent about saying they only do deals with good value.

I'm thinking this is just the DFS discussion and they put it out as smoke and mirrors.. or has anyone else hear us explore some options where we would be sending picks out?
Well that is one benefit of loading up on picks, you can then spend them to get other assets or players. I would be sorely disappointed if we used literally every pick to draft a new player, rather than bundling some of them to get either established players or better picks in a given draft.

If Lauri continues on current curve of development he will not sign an extension. That would net him just around 20 millions a season.
Lauri will enter FA and get much bigger deal if he is at this level. If this team is good he will sign here.
