Roster Building From Here - FA and Summer of 2023

I'm sure a 6'1'' combo guard who can't stay on the floor will go a long way toward getting a star.

Sexton has played pretty well this season when he's been able to, but come on now. We may throw him in as a sweetener but he'll never be one of the main pieces in a trade like that.

We only have two of those: Lauri and Kessler.
Agreed.

Sexton is fun to watch. He's a real fireball on the court.

With that said he's missed the better part of 2 seasons now due to injury. I can't imagine his trade value is anything more than neutral at best at this point esp with 3 guaranteed years left on his contract.

Lmao at the idea that Sexton can't be a headliner in a deal for a star. Our two player headliners from the Gobert/Mitchell trade where Malik Beasley and Lauri Markkanen (before y'all knew he was elite).

Star packages aren't headlined by players anymore. They are headlined by insane draft capital. Teams trading for stars want to be good, not give up their main rotation pieces, so they compensate by adding in some value contracts and a lot of draft capital.

sure but until Sexton actually plays for more than a few games here or there and proves he is at least still somewhat worthy of his contract, he has no trade value without giving up a lot more draft value than we should. s/t JC far more likely imo

So Jazz fans are finally admitting that superstars don't want to come here because of racism?
its the false narrative that we have racism any more than any other city that has lower populations of other races.
There will always be discussions about this, but I really think its all horse dung, to actually believe anyone outside of someone
looking for excuses to leave actually thinks about SLC, to be in a larger market and have more endorsements including white players is what will never change.

Headliner is not an accurate description... positive salary ballast is more appropriate. You yourself said the headliner is the draft capital. I think Sexton would carry more value than the expiring salaries of THT and Gay in a star trade... but not by a ton.

Player headliners

With all the Dame noise I wonder if Grant bounces... unless Porty wins the lotto I think they will tell Dame they are rebuilding and move him... he can stay on brand and they can move on.

Grant would be a nice addition... obviously may not love the idea of Utah and there would be many suitors, but we could get in that convo I'd bet.

And teams trading out their franchise player usually rebuild anyway, and being good doesn’t necessarily aid that either.

I'm resigned that Ochai is the centerpiece with some draft capital when we trade for a star. He's really good for a young star but not untradable good like Kessler.

Unless we can talk them into Sexton, THT and/or Olynyk I think you’re probably right.
