Game Thread Apr 08, 2023 01:30PM MT: Jazz vs. Nuggets

Added to Calendar: 04-08-23

I think what screwed us is having way too many promising pieces (coach included) to be able to tank effectively.

Which in and of itself is an exciting thing.
The Nuggets had "promising" piecew play too. Difference is we have a prime vet out there playing his best basketball.

Eve JTA, who sucks at a lot of stuff, generally plays winning basketball and make a lot of smart plays that helps a team.

This win pushed Denver below Philadelphia so we will have the 28th pick.

In the off chance Denver made the Finals against Philadelphia they just gave away home court advantage for what exactly? A quarter of rest? ****ing idiots.
I don't think they have to worry about the Finals.

So doestalent not even matter anymore? Is there so much talent that it is now effectively flat? What the **** is up with this season? Nothing makes any sense.

Well, Dunn and Ochai played extremely well today. Dunn had a team season high 14 assists playing the majority of his minutes with our bench players.

Yeah, and NOBODY WANTED HIM. Same with Luka2. The Jazz just can’t bottom out no matter how hard they try but this is not an isolated case.

I mean we sat everybody. you have to suit up some guys... and the Mavs just got slapped with an investigation. We controlled a lot of what we could control... when you leave tanking until the last 10 games sometimes you bump up against a completely unmotivated team.

It was super dumb but we took a lot of precautions.

Sure, no one wanted them, but they at some point were thought to have NBA talent by a large portion of the NBA.

That seems to be a difference from this FO and last possibly. Jazz are going after the big (relatively) names who failed instead of the hidden gem types.

The ****ing Nuggets pulled their starters after playing them substantial minutes, you can take Kris Dunn out and not be accused of tanking (to the point of investigation). The Jazz did their part and provided an entertaining game to the NBA.

I get the whole "a coach cant tank" thing for the majority of the season, but they can pull starters in a game 81 when the playoffs are already decided

This FO is at least churning the backend of the roster and getting options on dudes they might want to keep. Which is how you actually look for value and have success with it. Sticking with dudes year after year without showing anything wasn't real smart.
