Potential Trade Targets

I still have this creeping feeling that Trae Young will be a Utah Jazz player by next off-season.

Just feel like with him missing the ASG and the Hawks sucking it's a perfect storm for his value to be low enough the Jazz can throw a really enticing offer that will be hard to turn down.
Why are we so in love with ballhogs ball-dominant guards?

I mean... get rid of Sexton and Clarkson, replace them with people like Murray or Trae (at a huge cost)? Why?

When you have efficient off-ball players on the roster, it's not a flaw that has to be "fixed" by bringing in dudes that really, really like to dribble and shoot. You complement those off-ball guys with people who can create but are team ball oriented.

Name me a really good team that doesn't have a ball dominant wing. The closest one is Denver and Murray can definitely be ball dominant at times. Particularly in the playoffs.

Trae is an elite playmaker as well

You’ve spoken a few things into existence, let this be one.

Does anyone have a reason for why Murray went from being a fabulous rebounder for a guard on the Spurs to a mediocre one on the Hawks (sort of in tandom with an overall decline in +/- effectiveness)?
Hawks a way better team? All I got. I’m grasping at straws though or maybe he hates his situation so he’s not doing his all?

Hoopshype is scrambling for stuff to write about. Their top story rn is that Killian Hayes is on the block.

I mean, the guy who is a healthy scratch in the worst team in the league.

Earlier this week I saw one that said “Knicks intrigued with Grimes”

It was a typo but still kinda showed me where we are at this point. Teams are intrigued with their own players.

I believe there’s a realistic chance that there aren’t any trades. I’d attribute most of this to us not really being clear where we’re headed, and a lot of the available moves that the trigger could be pulled on won’t move the needle in one direction or another on that. There may be other hypothetical trades that could shift us in a particular direction, but those would be the hardest deals to come to an agreement on, that we ultimately just decide to pass and see how it plays out (hoping those results can give us added clarity), and not because we weren’t “willing” to move pieces. If we don’t make moves, I expect this to largely be the consensus. I do feel we’re a little stuck.

Yeah I remember you mentioning that in the pod (or here, dont know anymore) :)

But soon its gonna be twitter watching time, and Hoopshype crew gonna have their hands full lol.

I think I read an article a year or two ago that listed trader Danny's history of trades. I dont have time to look it up. But I think it said he had made a trade every year he has been a GM. If it wasn't every year, it was pretty close.

He is competitive and trade deadline os one of a couple moments of the season he can alter the trajectory of the team so he uses it.

For starters, I would be shocked if THT is still around by this time next week.

I'm just tired of us burning too many assets on mid- to even high-B-tier players like Murray. Or Conley. Wish we could make more of a splash than that. Closest we have ever come was acquiring Boozer.

I think DA finally acquires some seconds this deadline and moves KO. He can’t stay quiet over a deadline. I think they settle in a Ic trade only if they have plans to use space this offseason.

After talking with my close personal friend Andy Larsen… I’m more convinced than ever that they don’t have some master plan and are just kind of value based and not necessarily sure of what way they will go. This is gap year number 2 and we will have two more unless they can trade for a big time difference maker or move Lauri and fall in the top 5 of the lotto.

Yeah but KO for some seconds I just don’t really see as Ainge viewing that as something that moves the needle enough on anything. Myself, as well. Trading him is the pure capitalistic approach but if he’s wanting to make a push toward the end of the season, taking KO out for something as intangible to DA as a couple second rounders just doesn’t do it. We’re in limbo. I could see THT moved for something insignificant (assuming there’s a buyer, or at least a somewhat-willing taker) but I’m not sure I’d count that. I’d be surprised if anyone in the rotation is moved unless DA gets someone back he likes for Clarkson (I’d be surprised if we just moved him for a pick or picks/salary).

I think it will likely be something meh... and it could be THT to Philly for RoCo/Kormaz to help them duck the tax and we get some seconds. I think we get some seconds this deadline is all I'm saying I guess. DA will do something. KO should be moved imo because I don't think we should bring him back after the season and he can net a few seconds at very least.

JC has a higher threshold for a move and I could see us waiting on that one... unless they are really interested in moving that 14M and think the offers now are as good as they will be at the draft or in the summer.
