2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

Yeah, if the fallback prospect you draft is mostly empty calories that you get your value back (or better?) later, that’s pretty good in a ****** draft.
How many teams actually execute that? If the Jazz drafted Dillingham and he was somehow this 25 ppg scoring efficient offensive wizard, the outcome would be the Jazz doing everything they can to build around him.

I couldn’t tell you. It’s a fine point. Something tells me Ainge wouldn’t be too sentimental about a player like that in general, but especially considering what he did with (to) IT.

I also dont think DA is going to draft that archetype at 10.

He isnt completely philosophically opposed to the small scoring guard, but there's a difference between drafting them in the lottery vs getting them on a bargain in the trade market or free agency.

I think we are way too lost in the sauce thinking about a situation where he is actually very good but not perfect and then we commit ourselves too much too him lol.

My worry about Dillingham is his ability to play defense and finish at the rim/get to the FT line. I’m worried about him being a player at all and not too concerned with what we do in the event that he is a good player.

What is a good FTR to you?

Dillingham fit would be *very* rough here, though. Might be perfect for farming/recouping value for flipping while simultaneously tanking.

If he’s really slipping that far, maybe try to trade up from the later part of the draft or trade back from 10?

He would fit in perfectly. We had the worst defense in the league.

I don’t think Lou Will is 100th percentile for Rob, but probably still a good representation of a higher end outcome.

Half of these first round guys won’t become bonafide NBA players. Always got to remember the reality of draft outcomes. I really think people ought to stop comparing everyone to superstars.
Which is precisely why the better value in our picks is moving some of them for known talent.

Does someone have access to a site that can break down McCain vs Sheppard shooting?

I know that McCain was a great shooter and Sheppard was one of the best shooters in the NCAA ever, but I would be curious to break that down further. It feels like McCain took slightly tougher shots overall, but I'm not sure if that's true.

Whatever the case I think they have similar strengths and weaknesses. Sheppard is a better athlete, but McCain is stronger. McCain is older and not as good at the same things, but I don't think they are that far apart.
