There was a lot of talk about should the Jazz trade Lauri or not, maybe too much talk, but much of discussion was held from the position of the team. But Lauri has his own agency and we all know that when a star player makes up his mind to leave the team eventually abides. Now, can you put yourself in Lauri's position and decide if you want to stay for the rebuild or prefer to go somewhere else to compete right away? With all of these considerations about finally playing in the playoffs, not wasting your prime, being a big fish in a small pond, not having to uproot your family etc.

Are you staying or going being in Lauri's shoes?

Do you think Lauri would not get a bag from any other team? Even the size of the bag will be about the same.
Sure... if he stays healthy... but there is a reason guys like to extend. They can't offer an extension.

Exactly. It is one thing to contract around maximizing future contracts (sometimes signing 3 instead of 4 to get time it right to get a bigger payday in future, that I get.

But giving up, for example, what Harden did. He had a big offer for 3 years, but signed foe one year hoping to sign for 4 at close to the same $ amount per year. He started sucking/got fat and he missed out on something like $100m.

Lauri in some ways is in the same boat. He can extend and get big $ now, or play one year and then choose where to sign for similar $. If he gets hurt Hayward style, he coule give up a huge amount of future income.

The smart move is to take $ now, assuming the Jazz are offering to pay him, which they should.

If he is traded, I will be sad as I like watching him play. Basically the consistent bright spot last year. Will be a rough slog without him.

I am Lauri. I am first and foremost a family man.

I have already secured my family financially, but a little extra doesnt hurt. I want to be respected, and the number shows how much. So it matters.

Second priority for me is location. I want to raise my kids in a safe and child-friendly environment.

Third priority which is very close to the second one, maybe at times it feels even higher, is that I want to win. I want to compete. But I'm not in a terrible hurry, as I feel like I'm still getting better myself.

No one can/will offer him within $10 million of what the Jazz can.
I can be wrong, but I believe if he is traded now to a team like the Spurs they can can offer him only 8 million less total over the course of the 5-year max contract. Add to that that Texas has no state income tax and that playing alongside Wembanyama can lead to considerable higher endorsement deals and Lauri quite likely would end up better off than staying in Utah.

Big difference getting a bag at 27 as opposed to getting a bag at 28. Means you can get another bag one year earlier

Since we're doing mum jokes here why not;

@The Midnight and @Douchebag K are driving along a country road together and Douchebag sees a ewe trapped in the barbed wire fence, he pulls over and Onelove asks (in baby talk) "what are you doing?" Douchebag says "well you can't let an opportunity like this slip" and with that he undoes his pants and just rails the poor sheep, finishing with a satisfied groan.

He turns to Onelove or the The Midnight or whatever other nom de plume he goes by these days and asks "Do you want a go?"

Onelove thinks about it long and hard and goes "sure why not?"

Onelove then bends over and sticks his head into the barbed wire fence.
