How has Bidenflation affected you?

Apparently Trump has already fixed inflation and the economy before even taking office. Almost like partisan identity determines personal economic outlook more than the actual facts and realities we live in

Huh, imagine that. The pull of the cult is stronger than reality. Just ask anyone who survived the Moonies. Or who escaped the Mormon church.

Its so sad that no one can afford anything due to this horrible biden economy so we will certainly have historic low holiday spending this year and no one will be getting anything for christmas.

Now that the sarcasm is out of the way I bet we will see record spending this year. Even though no one has any disposable income.

You are really going out on a limb there. That number is set in dollars spent, and thanks to inflation, the dollar is worth less so it takes more of them to buy the same stuff. Your prediction is essentially that there has been inflation.

Try this one:

How much did you pay for your Toyota 4Runner? A new one will cost you over $63k

If everyone done spent all their money on eggs and gasoline there will be nothing left for the manufactured garbage that is 90% of all holiday gifts.

That is not how inflation works. You are confusing inflation with an economic downturn paired with inelastic demand. They are different. They do sometimes accompany each other, and when they do it is termed "stagflation".

Inflation is just the devaluation of the dollar. Eggs cost more dollars. Gasoline costs more dollars. Your labor costs more dollars. Everything costs more dollars. The amount of eggs or gasoline you can purchase with the value of an hour of your labor is roughly unchanged. It is only the dollar amount that is different because the dollar is worth less of your labor, less of eggs, less of gasoline.

We aren't in a recession. We have had an inflationary environment that will show as record spending in terms of the number of dollars.

Pay does not adjust in synch with inflation. It lags by years typically, the lower your relative pay the more it lags if it ever catches up.

Rises in the cost of labor sometimes lags inflation, and sometimes rises faster than inflation. Rises in the cost of eggs sometimes lags inflation, and sometimes rises faster than inflation. Inflation is a measure of the aggregate. Certainly not all commodities will see an identical change at an identical rate. That is simply a fact of the market, but it doesn't mean inflation isn't real or that a broad measure like holiday spending won't reflect the devaluation of the dollar a.k.a. inflation.

Thanks for the lesson.

Most people's pay has not kept up with inflation in our CURRENT situation. That was most likely the deciding factor in Trump being elected President.

Of course. You would think that with no one having disposable income due to the eggs being more expensive that no one would be spending. Some people might say that inflation means more spending (due to things costing more) but that isn't true. If no one buys christmas presents then it doesn't matter if those presents cost more. There would be way less spending. People still be buying christmas presents doe.

Plus, stuff dont cost more. I bought a car battery starter today for 40 bucks. I been looking into buying one of these for years. Cheapest I ever saw it. Also bought some earrings for my wife for 15 bucks today (normally like 120 bucks). Stuff be way cheap right now.

Saw a 43 inch tv for like 80 bucks. 65 inch tv for under 200 bucks. Inflation!!! My current tv (75 inch vizio from costco with less features than that 65 incher) cost 1500 bucks. I bought it during black friday sales as well. While trump was president. Inflation!!!

This has a lot to commend it. I've currently got a 75 inch Samsung which is about 10 years old, but its dying, I've got a feeling that's from sitting next to the parents dialysis machine which is like popping the TV next to a small oven. Still I'll keep it until it dies then replace it especially since im looking at moving house I'll buy one new when I move.

Yet again we see Americans enjoying the fruits of their labors and shopping. Just as we saw over the summer when travel hit new record highs. “bUt InFlAtIoN!”

I really wish we’d stop the whole “economic anxiety” schtick for why Trump won. It’s the racism. It’s the misogyny. It’s the entire Trump show. Americans are so ****ing bored with life that they craved another season of the chaos president. Because politics has become entertainment. Political leaders have become a way to exercise our authority over perceived cultural and political enemies.

It’s not the ****ing economy.

Yes, they spent more because everything costs more. That is how inflation works.

So if tomorrow everything cost 10X more people would just spend 10X more on everything and wouldn't have to make any decisions on what they can afford, being as how inflation doesn't magically put more money in the average working person's pockets?

For people living paycheck-to-paycheck, yes. That is how it would work for them because their labor is included in the "everything" costing 10x more. For those who have assets in cash, they get screwed. All other assets are also included in the "everything", so it doesn't hurt them. Those that have debt in dollars do the best of all because the value of their debt is now effectively 10% of what it was before.
