I wonder how a poster like bucknutz feels about the president thinking its his decision/job on what professional sports teams names should be. Seems like it should be up to the team owners to decide but apparently trump thinks the president should decide sports team names. Big government baby! Gotta love it!
The world may be facing
Big Beautiful Bill fallout from Elon Musk, ongoing tariff complications and the fear of another world war involving the United States, but President
Donald Trump has turned his focus to the
Washington Commanders nickname just as the franchise celebrated a return to playoff relevance. Should the team
not meet Trump's name change demands, they could see their $4 billion stadium project go South.
In a statement posted to Truth Social, the President said he would consider blocking the Commanders' plans to build their state-of-the-art
NFL venue at the site of it's former home, RFK Stadium, unless the franchise ditches the Commanders' name and reverts to its controversial identity as the Washington Redskins.
"My statement on the Washington Redskins has totally blown up, but only in a very positive way,"
Trump wrote. "I may put a restriction on them that if they don't change the name back to the original 'Washington Redskins,' and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, 'Washington Commanders,' I won't make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington."
Why does trump have a problem with the name "Commanders"?
He
continued reiterating his old stance by mentioning Cleveland's baseball team, which changed from the Indians to the Guardians. He listed Paul Dolan, the owner of what he called the "Cleveland Baseball Team," as having lost three elections in a row because of the name change, despite Dolan never running for office himself.
"What he doesn't understand is that if he changed the name back to the Cleveland Indians, he might actually win an Election. Indians are being treated very unfairly. MAKE INDIANS GREAT AGAIN (MIGA)."
