Seems like this could be a year things go wrong for the Wolves given the age of Conley/Gobert. Every year I watch Gobert I can tell he's getting less and less athletic. Conley is coming off a career low year for FG%. Things could get hard for them if they have to play a lot of minutes.

They also lost some veteran depth with the departure of NAW. They will really have to rely on some combination of Shannon, Dillingham, and Clarke to really step up and deliver the minutes that will be missed from NAW. Beringer has looked good in pre-season, but he's still extremely raw and might not be ready to step up for regular minutes if something happens to one of the bigs.

Randle shot 34% from 3 last year, but historically he has always had a shooting regression after a season with a good %.

The Wolves have also been very injury fortunate since the Gobert trade. Maybe that changes this year. The Wolves coming out the gate struggling with possibly the group of play-in contenders like the Kings/Spurs/Blazers/Pelicans starting hot could make things spicy for the Wolves this season and give us a lottery pick to swap (so extra odds for a top 5 pick).

I'd also note that Edwards's improvement arc is probably sloping off a bit. Hard to expect he'll make equally large gains this year as he made last year (or the year before, etc.).

They seem to have a big hole at pg with Conley falling off while he has been one of the main factors in keeping this team together in the past. Not really an established player behind him. It surprised me they didn’t sign a veteran pg in free agency (but perhaps I’ve missed something). They may play through Randle a lot, but it remains to be seen if that will prove to be a long term winning solution. Ant will have to step up as a playmaker too.

We want them to keep most of the wheels on this season and fall off next season. I think the pg issue is the issue they will deal with though. Seem to have found some decent wing prospects.

Ehh, fall off now and give us the extra odds at the star we want.

Also, how does the swap with the OKC protections work? If we finish with the 9th pick, but the Wolves win the lottery, are we able to swap the pick and get the 1st overall?

No, then Wolves would get #1 and we get nothing. I guess maybe in that case we could overpay to get the pick back from OKC in order to swap, though.

If OKC gets the Jazz pick can they swap for the Wolves pick if it is better?

I don't believe so, no. We hold the swap rights exclusively.

So, should the Jazz (against all odds...) start out really good, we should probably look to trade to get that pick back (less value for OKC than for us). Probably not relevant, of course.

This is correct, therefore wheels falling off next year is the ideal route as the likelihood that the Wolves swap materializes is EXTREMELY low since the Jazz have to finish bottom-4 to guarantee keeping their pick. Good news is it seems just as or more likely the wheels fall off next year. Some of their young players who haven’t played are going to have to step up in a major way to offset the diminishment of Gobert and Conley.

They have drafted well, I’m not so sure about their developmental track record, though.

Just a reminder to the chicken little’s that we won’t know the return of the Gobert/Mitchell trades until well after 2031.
