Jackpotting Around - Episode 50 Tankxiety and the Trade Machine

It would be funny for your podcast to get tied into the locked on network as ‘locked on Jazz for serious fans’ or something like that.

Lol at all the James Hansen references. That guy annoys the **** out of me with all his dramatic sky is falling bs.
He wants @Elizah Huge and I to join his team lol. Time for me to re-evaluate how much I’m whining.

Nice rant from HH. I'm with EH on this one. Our start to the season hasn't been ideal for the tank, but I think we could still have the 5th-worst record (maybe even 3rd or 4th) if we do the things you mentioned. We'll soon see what the FO's real intentions are. As for Hendricks, I'm with HH. It's too early to know what he is as a player. Let's wait until next season.

Just listening to this now. I reject @Elizah Huge ’s claim that nobody thinks that a 28 team is so much better for development than a 22 win team. It’s been the main talking for me this season, I’ve been disagreeing with lots of people that feel this way.

I’m not really a Jazz twitter guy, but from what I’ve seen the sentiment is more so “we’re fine fine, we can tank later”. Ugh…..

Some people have a combination of both attitudes, but both are very stupid. And @Handlogten's Heros is right that the real driving force behind this is just pride, integrity, ego….whatever. I believe Nepo will come to his senses, but we are ****ing around and will find out.

I have tanxiety….but that’s really just a side of effect of Aingeiety. The current regime sucks and considering because this is a Nepo franchise I expect it be here for the long run.

Also, kudos to @Handlogten's Heros that it doesn't really matter if you think we're fine or not fine because team x, y, z might start winning. Lauri, Key, and other player development has made it so we're not going to be the top lotto spot again. Great! But our incentives have not changed. Increasing odds at top 4 should be a priority whether you're looking at the 1-3 range, 4-6, 7-9 etc. Whatever the "cost" is of playing Cody+TH and not running Lauri into the ground is, it will be worth the tank incentive.

I guess that’s fine and all but my counterpoint would be that Svi doesn’t affect winning that much. It shouldn’t swing games that much by replacing him with Cody and Taylor. If it does, Svi should be a major piece of the team going forward. Or Taylor is really that bad (we already know Cody is).

It doesn't affect winning that much in the sense that a 22 win team is not much different than a 28 win team. But in terms of lotto position and odds at top 4, it can mean a lot. Even just 1-3 wins can make a real difference, and the point of the post you quoted is that wherever we are in the lotto we're going to wish we had those extra L's.

The value of benching Cody and TH is very low, and IMO it's a net negative strictly from a development perspective. So anything we gain from the lotto, even if it's just one position, will be worth it.

What about those of us who don't pretend to care about any fake "development" in the first place but just want to win as much as possible?

We're the great, silent majority.

I would enjoy to win as much as possible into the future, but it’s not up for me to decide what people enjoy. Most people probably just want to see a W on any given night and don’t think past that. It’s totally valid to just want to win instead of thinking big picture. I don’t have a problem with what any fan enjoys and there’s nothing to discuss wrt what a person enjoys.

In my post, I am talking about is the big picture and what’s best for winning long term. People try to argue this “winning culture” BS as an actual big picture item is what I disagree with. If you want the W because you like to see the W…cool. But don’t make it out to be some 200iq team building strategy. It’s not.

Saying those who wish for Ws not thinking past single games is just the most arrogant BS ever. There are people who are super super casual and/or dumb enough to not realize there is a draft and that we may forfeit our pick.... but that is a small minority of people. Most fans ARE passionate and know their teams affairs to that level. The vast majority of people who do know these basic facts probably have 1000 different reasons why they hope the team goes one way or the other.

Seeing the big picture is about realizing there are many paths and and even more variables.., not fixating on one path and saying its the only correct one. So I would argue that instead of actually seeing the big picture, you are proving the exact opposite.
