Cody Williams Hype and Appreciation Thread

I like that Cody has been driving to the rim more aggressively this season. He didnt get a foot in to the paint last year. He is also improving his rim finishing even if it is still well below where it needs to be.

I also like his defense. Is it game changing? Nah. Is it respectable? Sure. I think he can add a lot of weight and strength to his frame and he can eventually be a player due to his defensive qualities.

Keeping him 'hyped' while the rest of yall are trashing him constantly.

I'm still not 100% convinced that Cody actually likes basketball that much. He may have just had the physical tools and followed his brother. If you're a player who is hungry to score, you'll find a way to score. You'll find a way to make shots and seek out shots you can make. Cody is so nonchalant. He just doesn't react when he makes a good play or when he makes a bad play. Frankly, it looks to me like he doesn't care that much.

yeah its so hard to imagine what tf he's thinking. I'd love to see how he plays in practice away; from the spotlight

Why are we discussing Cody all the freaking time? Lets just stop blowing air to this topic until he gives us a reason to discuss him. I dont think he ever will, so Id rather NOT waste more time and energy.

Taylor Hendricks should be discussed instead. He may as well be a bust but there is more of EVERYTHING to him than there is to Cody. At least he has visible muscles, can shoot some and rebound some and has WAY more energy and aggression to his game (still probably not enough, but Cody doesnt really set a high bar there does he?).

Hard to like something when you are the worst at it in the league in which you play

It's likely a main reason they fired scouts and brought in Austin. A smart team like the Spurs takes Castle and then trades off their lottery other pick before picking Cody.

I mean, the Jazz wanted Edey to fall to them, so I doubt they would have taken Cody #1. I think that was just some post pick hype info leak.

I don't blame anyone for the Cody pick. No one thought he would be this bad. It's a weird mental thing going on with him.

That's the wrong way of looking at it.

The real question should be: Who ever thought he would be good? And why?

He was drafted at #10 not because someone thought he wouldn't be this bad, but because someone thought he would be good. And that's the type of thing that gets you fired.

I would only fire someone if they had Cody in their top 5 or something like that. At ten, the draft sucked. Yes, Buzelis was still available, but Buzelis didnt look good at all in the G-League.

Jazz took an upside swing on someone with crazy length. I'm OK with missing on that given the strength of what was available.

At some point everyone is hilariously wrong in the draft. It happens. I wouldnt fire anyone for one bad draft call unless it was egregious to the point of a number of better prospects after your pick. If anyone was fired in connection to the Cody pick, I highly doubt that was their only offense.

I had some real reservations about the Cody pick based on his play in an NCAA tourney game vs. Boise State. The guy that outplayed him is currently in the GLeague coming off the bench and was undrafted. I have a feeling that some guy playing noon pick up ball at the Y could compete with Cody at the moment.

The funniest thing about Cody (when reading this thread) isnt that some people liked him pre-draft, it's that people compared him to Paul George and Grant Hill after his first Summer League.
