What should the FO do if we are 0.500 by January?

If you were put in charge of the FO, what would you do if the Jazz were 0.500 on January 1st

Brett Brown got a partial Hinkie despite being obviously less involved with throwing games than Hardy is.

Brett Brown is not good at coaching basketball, that's his issue. He coached three seasons after tanking for 4 years. Once the Sixers stopped owing him money he got a job with the Spurs. The jury is still out on Hardy, but being employed by a tanking team is not his problem.

Wow, Lauri himself doesn’t want to tank? I never knew that and this changes my entire perspective on things.

Also, full quote:

“I don’t think losing, or purposefully losing, should be part of professional sports. I feel like athletes always want to compete. I understand why some organizations around the NBA are doing it, but I feel like it sucks, in my opinion,” Markkanen said. “There should be a better way to build rosters. That’s the way it’s been, so I understand it, but that’s my opinion.”

It's would be stupid to try to get for the purpose of worsening the pick to OKC. If you lose the pick, you lose the pick. Does not matter if that's 9th or 20th.

Earlier I said that you might want to open yourself up to a trade if you don't want to tank and the pick is a foregone conclusion. I don't think the pick is a gone yet, but if there were any trade targets I'd free myself up to it would be Herb or Jaren Jackson.

What about Damontis Sabonis, Nic Claxton, or Michael Porter jr?

If only we had Walker :(

Walker brings some things to the table and takes some things off the table. He's no miracle cure.

Nurk is almost washed and can't jump, but he still has a lot more ball skills and is a much more effective high screener and handoff guy (being a wide body with a totally unmovable base). I'd argue his passing in tight spaces is one of the big reasons why the offense is humming this season. Any team with Lauri on it needs a passing big. Nurk can also make a quick floater / push shot off a short roll, which is a very valuable skill in today's NBA, with crazy long rim protectors ready to pounce.

Kessler is obviously a much better paint defender and works harder overall. He's also a better rebounder, but the difference is smaller than you'd think, considering Nurk is ground bound. On pick and rolls, he's totally useless unless it's an alley-oop.

IMO one of the most valuable things Nurk brings to this team, even in his current form, is that he seems like a guy who knows all the dirty veteran tricks and is something of a hard-***. I wouldn't call him an enforcer or anything, but at least he's not soft and moody like Kessler, who you can push around. On a team of quiet nice guys, that can be important.

Even if you believe all of this, Nurk would still be getting minutes with Walker.

It'd be the Love minutes that'd be drained.

It’s kind of crazy to look back at the sexton trade considering everyone thought the jazz got screwed. Nurkic is the more valuable player. I like Colin’s aggression but he’s so undersized. I lost track of how many times he had his shot blocked. Nurkic is just crafty. He reminds me a bit of Vlade Divac. Looks like a guy who would smoke two packs of cigarettes right before a game.

Changed my vote to unethical tank from ethical tank.

Jazz gotta keep Lauri, Walker isn’t getting traded.

We’re ready to compete but we have the possibility for greatness if we can nail this draft. That pick is just so god damn loaded; the Jazz basically have to be a contender for giving it up to make sense with where we are (importantly, the Jazz are still 12-19 and have 0 rim protection which means they cannot be a contender).

We just gotta tank our asses off for 60% of a season at this point. End strong cuz we’re pushing after that (I still would be very cautious about being a buyer on the trade market but that’s a different topic).

I hated the approach to the tank last year but I’m in the “do whatever it takes this year no matter how dirty I feel about it and then we’ll be forever free” camp
