Trade DL anticipations: New winds or par for the course?

We are again in a situation where Hardy seems to have found ways to make this team borderline play-in bubble competitive, and the FO may face the same questions they faced in 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, both of which led them to the same decissions (hamstring the team by trading out rotation guys for cheap).

However there are four major differences compared to those two years:
1) We look like we have 2 all-star quality players instead of just 1
2) We are much younger than we were in either one of those years
3) Austin Ainge is now in charge (unless you think he isnt)
4) In order to NOT lose the pick, we need to tank harder than we did in those years

So what do we expect them to do this time around? Are they gonna sell cheap again to break the chemistry and try and save the pick, or is there a chance they choose a different path?

I have a theory that Austin was hired to NOT do the same thing. I have had this feeling that while Ryan Smith stood behind those decissions after they were made, they werent the decissions he was hoping for. The talk about "big game hunting", trading for multiple star level players and holding powder dry to make a move was the chorus they sang all of those years and I believe that was more in line with what Smith wanted all along. Its just that a clear and obvious opportunity wasnt there (except with Bridges, where they eventually gave up when Knicks pushed the price up).

I know some in here think nepo is a muppet, but if so then why was he hired? Is he actually here only because DA wants to play more golf? Conspiracy theorist in me says DA came out of retirement to do the dirty work and set up his son to start his POBO career the right way. Austin doesnt actually have to do a full tear down, but instead he can opt to focus on building up.

All that being said.... my take is that if Hardy has indeed again found the right medicine to make this a feisty .500 team, then we are gonna be buyers this time around and wont pivot on the DL like we did when DA was running the show.

Can we really tank at all? The problem is Lauri is better than his trade return and he IS an all star player- what you’d hope to get in the draft.

Suprisingly I think Nurk is the only ethical/logical tank trade piece. He is our only true big and important match up piece keeping us in games with Kessler out and someone who really doesn’t fit the timeline. If we don’t trade Nurkic I think the FO is showing the tank is truly dead- the only question is still timing and availability of assets. If we make moves now we would likely preclude ourselves from targeting someone like Reaves.

I expect a rerun of the first two years of the rebuild (****ing around until February, then absolutely desperate and shameful tanking to close out the season).

They’re not trading Lauri. Probably can’t find anyone that wants Nurk/Anderson/Niang, they might cut some of them but only after the deadline. They might trade Brice if they can pry away a (highly protected) 1st from someone.

Being a buyer on the trade market is a complete nonstarter.

TLDR; I don’t expect any fireworks at the deadline.

We'll waive/get rid of some of the veteran contracts. That's about it. The biggest change will be more tanking stuff. It will be especially ugly to make up for not doing it earlier.

Also, it's so funny to me that the misquote of "big game hunting" will forever be a thing.

Not happening unless "highly protected" means top29.
More what I am thinking of is like the Bucket of Neale trade to the Nets wherein it’s like the third or fourth option of a chain of swaps kind of thing. Or maybe a fake 1st?

In this environment I don’t think it’s likely, even in such cases.

It's not gonna be that easy. The Jazz are already under the league's microscope for having been fined last season, and I'm not sure Smith wants a repeat of that. It's not the money, it's the optics.

I think in here people should understand what the quote was about.

Nepotism?
Lol be real. Its not like he is the assistant to Danny who sits in the back and earns a paycheck for doing nothing.

No one is denying nepotism being involved in the hiring process, but are you saying he is the main FO guy talking to the media while actually not having a real job there?

The question was "why was he hired?" and I think a massive percentage of that can be explained "because his last name is Ainge".

Nepotism doesn't mean he isn't doing the job.

"the practice among those with power or influence of favouring relatives, friends, or associates, especially by giving them jobs."

So you intentionally took the question literally just so you could throw some one liner? Is this what we have come to?

Let me rephrase then: What was he hired for?
