What's new

2025-26 College football season

makes me root for scalley and the utes more now. I now hate michigan. (and yes I know im being too emotional about it all.)
I’d say the Morgan Scalley era is off to a good start, and you’re not being to emotional, I’d say Whit is Lol. I fully expected him to retire, then signs a 5 year deal. So glad Michigan lost its ball game.

But he was telling everyone he was going to retire, I kept hearing all year long was that he only didn’t retire last year because of how the season went and he wanted to go out on a high note and now all of a sudden he’s signing a five year deal in Michigan. Scalley probably was tired of waiting and threatened to leave. This is all speculation but Utah probably didn’t want to lose him.
The first part is speculation, the second isn’t.

The issue here is letting Scalley go is a bump in the road, Whittingham gutting the best minds of both programs might be catastrophic. If they misread Whittingham’s desire to compete, this is on them.

Whittingham didn’t need to pull **** to leave. All signs point to that he was shown the door.

Scalley’s one-game success is done with Whitt’s players and coaches.

I think they misread it because whitt mislead it. I think he was flip flopping for the last couple years.

The whole thing stinks. Both programs had great years and were on an upswing with momentum. Whitt killed it.

Good assistant coaches are not going to last very long. If Whitt didn't poach them they would have gotten offers soon anyway.

Portal opens today. I know utahs best pash rusher entered the portal (John Henry Daley). Will be interesting to see how many players from BYU and Utah go to michigan. I saw that one of utahs top commits (Salesi Moa) is likely to decommit from Utah and head to michigan.

Saw this and it blew my mind: Yesterday was Indiana’s first bowl win since 1991 and only their 4th bowl win of ALL time.

That is insane. Sitake has been coaching BYU for 10 years. He has 6 bowl wins in those 10 years. Indiana only has 4 bowl wins in their entire program history AFTER yesterdays win. That is one of the craziest stats I have ever seen.
fwiw BYU has 19 bowl wins and Utah has 17 bowl wins. Indiana had 3 bowl wins before yesterday. Crazy. (honestly im surprised that byu and utah dont have more bowl wins than they do as well. Bowl wins just dont seem rare at all to me.)

Yeah, everybody here in Indiana is going pretty crazy about IU right now. Most people can't believe they are good. It's still very much a basketball school even though their basketball team hasn't been great for awhile now.

I think the issue is the timing and the who. I agree that maybe jason beck and for certain jay hill would get poached eventually. But if whitt simply retires then I think neither leaves this off season and more utah commits and players stay at utah and utah doesn't lose other coaches right now as well. Both programs would be better off in 2026 if whitt just retires (like he was telling everyone he was going to do) rather than goes to michigan. Both programs just came off fantastic seasons and had tons of momentum and Whitt, a guy who would seemingly have some love for both programs, single handedly diminished that momentum.
Its easy to see why local fans of both programs would be hurt and upset right now.

Smith Snowden (arguably utahs best defensive back) just entered the transfer portal.
Hoping BYU can snag him but if I had to guess then I would guess he might be trying to go to michigan. Losing him and John Henry Daley (plus the Fano brothers going to the nfl) along with much of the coaching staff is tough for the Utes. Plus there is likely still more to come. This might be a complete rebuild situation sadly.

Dang I just found out that michigan has most of their coaching staff in place and its not good for utah.
Head coach: Kyle Whittingham (utes. Played at byu)
OC: Jason Beck (utes. Played at byu)
QB coach: Koy Detmer (utes. Played at byu)
WR coach: Micah Simon (utes. Played at byu)
TE coach: Feddie Whittingham (utes)
OL coach: Jim Harding (utes)
Strength and conditioning coach: Doug Elisaia (utes.)
Also took the Defensive ends coach from utah (Lewis Powell)

Damn. 8 Members of the Ute coaching staff gone in a couple of days.

I hear whitt is trying to get jenaro Gillford (BYU secondary coach) from BYU but BYU is fighting hard to retain him.
BYU fans are also scared that their safety, Satuala, might follow Hill to michigan. Isiah Glasker (LB) is another concern for BYU fans. Those are two of the best defensive players who were supposed to be back next year for BYU (glasker was thinking of going pro but probably wont). I personally think Satuala is going to be a big time star and great nfl player. Losing either guy would be a big blow to BYU.

Damn. Im hearing that Gilford is off to michigan and that BYU linebacker coach Justin Ena is off to michigan as well. **** you Whitt.

Just saw satuala is coming back to BYU at least. I was worried about losing him
