Don't let Kyle off the hook in all this. He planned his own coup.
He's the one that started talking about retiring.
He's the one who said he didn't see himself coaching past 65 (he's now 66).
He's the one that insisted on giving Scalley the HCIW (Head Coach In Waiting) title to keep Scalley from moving on.
That doesn't excuse Harlan from going along with it and helping lead the charge to convince Kyle it was finally time. Just that Kyle, himself, has an equal portion of the blame.
Think about what Kyle's done to Morgan. He bribed Morgan into staying at Utah all because Kyle didn't want to be without him during Kyle's final years at Utah, and then Kyle stabs Morgan in the back on his way out the door, taking pretty much all of the top Utah assistants and likely several of the top talent. Kyle convinced Morgan this would be a smooth transition, and now he's burning it down.
