But Hardy does not have mandate to try and lose.
Imo he shouldn't need one.
No one will remember the season where he got his team to 29 wins when they think of Will Hardys legacy.

If he were able to add a top 4 draft pick to his team then they might remember his legacy when he is going to the finals.
In other words, I have to assume he isn't an idiot and knows about the pick protections. He has to know about the amazing talent at the top of the draft. He has to understand than it's easier to coach a team to more wins with more talent on the roster.
If he knows all that then it would totally make sense for hardy to be on board with the tank regardless of any communication from the front office.

During the half tank years when we were trying to win Lauri played less than he is now. The difference is that Hardy had more options he liked to play back then. I don’t think he thinks 36 minutes is ideal, but he just doesn’t like his bench options as much. And who can blame him!

It has to come from the FO. He’s been a more than willing participant with whatever the FO has mandated him to do.
This should be the case regardless of the pick ramifications. We should simply not break our wildly mobile 7-footer who can get really hampered with nagging injuries. Period.

Hardy doesnt make that call. If FO says he jumps, he asks how high.

He was an absolute tank mastermind last season and sabotaged our wins more than any coach I can remember. We had Lauri and some other decent players (Kessler, Sexton, Collins etc) but managed to actually have THE WORST record in the NBA. That doesnt happen by accident. People got fooled by him so hard last year, that many thought Lauri was declining or fools gold. This season has shown that it was all a big hoax.

So yes, he does need a mandate. He is a company guy who is obviously pushing for wins because the FO wants him to live 1 game at a time and try and get the best out our guys instead of asking his help in the tanking business.
