What's new

How much Portland loves Wesley Matthews!

I like the comment below, "You Can't Overpay For A Championship". They think Wes will be the key to a championship? Let's focus on getting out of the first round Portland.

Hey they are on their way. maybe another 5 million for a player like fes and it will take them to the top.

"Hopefully moving forward we would love to see him become a leader for us and a leader on the defensive end," said Born, "where it's like 'Look, I'm coming to work everyday. I'm practicing hard, I'm working hard in the game, I'd taking a ton of pride in my defense.' I think when you have someone that is doing it, I think there's a confidence that comes along with that. People will listen to him if he's calling people out on the defensive end. I think he could potentially be a guy who could have a voice like that. What's the value of that? I think we felt like there's a tremendous amount of value in that."

I agree with that. Not sayin it's worth $34 million, but I've said for some time now that I thought Wes would be a leader on this team. Not THE leader, with Deron here, but certainly "a" leader, and that's even though he has less time with the team than anyone else. He brings much more of value to a team than his physical skills alone.

Hey, I resemble that remark. I admit I clicked on the blog first before finding the video. Nice comments by Wesley thanking the fans and the Jazz organization. I think he realizes his agent didn't tell him the whole story.

I wish nothing but the best for Matthews. But I hope the rest of that miserable organization and their ownership and management team - who have now screwed us over twice - all find themselves cursed. A pox on them and their team.

Holy **** that's akward. Has anyone noticed how depressed Wesley seems? He looks a little sick to his stomach. Like he really doesn't want to be there. I think he never imagined Utah wouldn't match.

I don't think you watched the right video...

The Blazers are really happy with their new player, Wesley Johnson!

Wow, he really doesn't seem excited to be in Portland at all. He sounds like a robot with dying batteries.

I agree. He is not thrilled at all. All he can do is keep talking about how much he loved the fans and organization. I think this is all surreal to him, he never thought that the Jazz would let him leave. I wish him the best though, he will be a great role player in the league for years. He'll be back here in 5 years.

Wes is a great guy, and had to sign that contract. He knows though that he's going to be a bench player now.
Enjoy him Portland!

Wes does look surprised. It's almost like it's hitting him now...I get more money, to come off the bench, and play less. It's all so fantastically ironic. For every other person on Earth, getting more to do less is the whole goal. He won the lottery in that department, but it's probably going to make him miserable.

I think he looks pretty miserable in that video. He seems to be very genuine right up until he starts talking about being a Blazer... LOL

**** Portland. I love Matthews and he should absolutely still be a Jazz man. It's really too bad he got such a ridiculous offer.

He talked more about Utah then Portland in his press conference. He is one shocked and sad young man. I hope the Jazz fans give him a big cheer when he comes back. He will always be a Jazz man.

That interview was painful for me and Matthews. i will miss Wesley he certainly does not seem very excited as a lot of you have said. I wish him well!

Perhaps in "Kramer vs. Kramer" style a sobbing Paul Allen will hug Greg Miller and acknowledge that this is where Wesley belongs after all.

So with the deal being frontloaded could we trade for him next year as the final four years would be reasonable? Porty will want to dump him by then anyways.
