Jazz ban 2nd fan for calling Westbrook "boy"

I know well what it means. You don't want to actually say something overtly racist, so you use code words and phrases plainly understood by the in group as to what you really mean. Making light of racist statements and implying that those who are offended by them are pansies or suffering...

Jazz ban 2nd fan for calling Westbrook "boy"

I hope this is parody. You do realize don't you that this is the very type of dog whistle BS that racists everywhere spout when something like this happens? You've misread your audience (with the exception of CJ who probably got a woody on reading it). When normal people read this kind of...

    The latter, clearly.

Jazz ban 2nd fan for calling Westbrook "boy"

    It's a paranoid idea.

Jazz ban 2nd fan for calling Westbrook "boy"

Honestly, certain things are pretty clear about what is racist. Calling African Americans names that have been historically used to demean and oppress them is pretty clearly racist. If you're not sure about something, then just don't. The cost to you of not doing so is really quite small.

Jazz ban 2nd fan for calling Westbrook "boy"

I have no doubt that fans at other arenas yell racial epithets at players. That said, Utah has a reputation, and this reputation is that it is white, ultra-conservative, and Mormon, with Mormons having a rather sordid history in its treatment of blacks. Hence, the suggestion that people in...

Taking no satisfaction in being right

If anyone expected us to be GSW, well, what can you say to that? My frame of reference goes back to the early season excuse making (much of it by press and pundits) attributing poor show of form to schedule difficulties. Sure, schedule matters, but the excuse making always struck me as a bit...

Taking no satisfaction in being right

Those of us who didn't buy all in to the "but the schedule" explanation for poor Jazz showings are, I imagine, feeling some sense of vindication at this point given how the team has been trending recently (not that we're taking any satisfaction in it). The same problems vexing the team during...

    A Place for Conservatives

So then, what he really wants is a place where conservatives can mock liberals and feel safe from liberals mocking him in return? For me, the whole conservative typology doesn't really work much anymore as today's Republican Party has, in the post-Trump world, rejected such long-held...

    Hayward's Woes

It's more than that. When Kyrie wasn't in the game last night, Hayward stood in the corner while Brown, Tatum, & Rozier took turns dominating the ball. Not one looked Hayward's way, let alone passed to him. He was totally uninvolved in the offense on numerous possessions.

    Hayward's Woes

Not to pile on or beat a dead horse or [insert metaphor], BUT, I watched a lot of Boston-LA last night, looking specifically to see how Hayward was being used. On virtually every possession, he went straight to the corner and watched while a succession of players-Brown, Tatum, Rozier, either...

    2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

I'm all for sticking the metaphorical finger at the Lakers. Here's to many, many years or continued irrelevance (despite being on TNT/ESPN on a weekly basis, regardless how bad they are.) To add insult to injury, D-Russ, the guy Lakers and Magic dumped for Lonzo, is thriving in Brooklyn, while...

    2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

That's something I find curious. Jazz FO so high on Exum they won't include him on a deal, yet he doesn't start, gets back up minutes, doesn't play in crunch time, looks completely lost at times, and is frequently in the coach's doghouse. At some point, they gotta take off his leash and let...

Would have been even better if Boston had traded Hayward to Cleveland. Perhaps in the offseason.

    2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Agreed. Utah IS NOT a major free agent destination. While we may be able to sign the (end of career) Joe Johnson's or Epke Udoh's of the world, we will not sign any major star in free agency. Nor are we likely to draft them on any consistent basis (getting Rudy and Donovon where we did was an...

    2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Message board scolds who seek to position themselves as the voice of reason among a collection of fools, particularly on fan message boards, which are intended precisely for the sort of speculation, venting, criticism, exuberance, etc. that in the critic's mind makes them fools, are among the...

    2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Cue up "Sometimes, the best trade is no trade." 3, 2, 1.... Wash, rinse, repeat. It may be legitimate. Making bad trades can absolutely kill a team, particularly a small market team that may have fewer avenues available to it to recover. On the other hand, being overly risk averse, and...

    2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

GMs make dumb moves ALL THE TIME. However, probably far less that would be the case than the average fan criticizing them. Nonetheless, they're fair game for criticism. Even the sainted Dennis Lindsey is capable of goofing up now and then.
