I think it was Brantley. Dude has slimmed down.

Oni's looked so good defensively these last couple games.

Bogeys skillet is such a good fit for the offense. Just can't hit anything early this season.

    Rudy Gobert 5 years, $205M

You didn't answer the question. How is Rudy's contract worse than the players he mentioned, many/all of whom meet your criteria above while being worse players?

Donovan to play point guard and Conley to play off the ball

The Conley hate is so over the top. Dude is still a solid player, just not a good fit, especially with JC on the roster.

Are the Jazz going to trade Rudy?

You're a year off on your calculations: The summer of 2024 is 3.5 years away (42 months-ish). That's 4 seasons--the last year on his rookie deal plus the first three on his extension.

[Woj] Donovan Mitchell signs 5/195M max designated rookie extension with the Jazz

Who's lying to themselves? Donovan wanted more options. Period. The Jazz have him under contract for 5 more seasons. That's it, your fever dreams notwithstanding.

But if those are free agents signed out of the G League, they'd count against the LT and Apron as a second year minimum contract player (if I'm understanding correctly). To drop salary against the LT, the Jazz have to swap their guys for players on rookie minimum who were drafted by their...

[Woj] Donovan Mitchell signs 5/195M max designated rookie extension with the Jazz

Jesus Christ, dude. Get help. Also worth pointing out that just last year Pascal Siakam signed for only 4 years on a "Rose Rule" contract. So, you know, 3 out of like 9 of these things have been for less than 5 guaranteed years.

It's a pretty cool adjustment from both ends. Basically anyone on a minimum contract, irrespective of their service time and the associated salary, counts as a 2-year minimum salary against the LT and Apron.

Good catch. So the Jazz should still be able to trade 2 of NWG/Morgan/Oni/Niang for drafted players making the rookie minimum to maybe get under the tax. Do they have any second round picks left to make this happen? Is this why they're hyping Oni and Morgan so much?

[Woj] Donovan Mitchell signs 5/195M max designated rookie extension with the Jazz

You realize LeBron's extension after his rookie contract was only for 3 years--something a bunch of players did at the time? This is completely normal and expected.

Which, of course, makes perfect sense: The Jazz are cheap and conservative, and just tossed a bunch of second round picks to avoid the LT. In the end, it looks like you were wrong about the Jazz using the full MLE + re-signing JC, but possibly right about them skirting the LT.

Found the relevant part in Larry Coon's CBA FAQ. It appears as though Dan Clayton's understanding is not consistent with the FAQ, as that salary calculation for rookies and second year players making the minimum is for the Apron, not the cap or LT: 13. Exactly what is included when computing...

I don't see it in Larry Coon's FAQ. Is this Salt City Hoops dude reliable? Either way, it might be possible to replace two or three of the Jazz's last four with players making the rookie minimum ($900k) and avoid the LT.

Not aware of this rule; strange. Could this guy (Dan Clayton) just be wrong? Larry Coon is usually pretty good. If this is the rule, could the Jazz trade a couple of their guys making more than the minimum for other teams' drafted players on the rookie minimum to avoid the tax? Do they have any...
