Have "The Core Five" Turned A Corner?

We definitely don't have a "Core 5". We have a "Core 1", a PG who is 95% off limits, and 3 other guys could just as easily be dealt as stick around. More accurately, we have a "Core 3" which includes Favors, Burke, and the lottery pick. That's not a value assessment of the players, it's pure...

Lots of trade rumors popping up about Hayward to boston?

I agree that the likelihood of trading Hayward is near zero, but any deal that included Boston's first (not the ATL/BRK one), even it included taking on Wallace, is a no brainer. 2 top 10 picks in this draft is better than Hayward in an RFA year and no deep thinking is required to figure that...

    GT: Jazz @ Spurs Jan 15th 6 p.m. - AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX

The difference is this: Burks drives almost exclusively from the PnR in our offense. Most of the good drivers in the league need a PnR to be successful, but the elite ones don't. Alec's unique ability is he's actually better one on one than on the PnR. That's my point. He needs freedom to...

    GT: Jazz @ Spurs Jan 15th 6 p.m. - AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX

Can anyone explain this to me? When is Burks going to be allowed to just beat the guy in front of him? It's obvious he's better one on one than in the PnR. If the idea is to coach him into playing in the system, fine. But why wouldn't you get the ball into Burks' hands as the shot clock...

    GT: Jazz @ Spurs Jan 15th 6 p.m. - AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX

When Ty is straightening his tie hoping to be considered for the Weber State job next year, he might want to study Pop's game tape. The Spurs are magical. Watch their game clocks. They run quick early sets, guys space methodically, they do the drive and kick, but what makes them special is...

    GT: Jazz @ Spurs Jan 15th 6 p.m. - AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX

Can't wait for Locke to claim the moral victory on tomorrow's tip off. I'll write the script for him: 1) We had no chance to win so it's practically supernatural we didn't lose by 30; 2) the guys "never quit" and "fought hard" (daily Ty hand job); we might have won with Hayward (daily Hayward...

hayblurbs injury still a blessing in disguise..

I want Hayward back. But if Lindsey estimates his RFA offer is 13 plus, he has to look to deal him.

Does Burks deserve to be a starter yet?

I'd leave Burks in the second unit. He can build his confidence better that way. But I think it's absurd he doesn't average 30 plus. I'm always mystified when Burks plays 24 minutes while Hayward ALWAYS gets 37 even if he's shooting 4-14 which he often does.

    The Church of Alec Burks

Just saw this game tonight. All I can say is Burks can do things that very few NBA players can do. Whether he can do them consistently is another question, but wow does he have upside.

If one of our players became a star?

Favors has the best chance to turn into a star, but he's already signed so it doesn't matter. Otherwise, Burks is the only other guy. His ability to drive is elite, but he still has to prove he can do it against first units. (He also needs a coach that is willing to turn him loose, but I...

If one of our players became a star?

Hayward is basically turning into Deng, almost as good. A high minute guy who, by extension, will always have great per game stats, and always be a fringe all star selection. Like Deng, Hayward can't drive or create his own shot, but is an upper level glue guy for what he does on and off the...

    Tank, Ty, and Tomorrow

Locke-speak is the cliche garbage Locke throws around about Ty managing a locker room, or guys "fighting", or how great he manages vets, all designed to cover up Ty's putrid performance. Locke is not objective however hard he tries to pretend he is. I've never heard this stuff about Karl's...

    Tank, Ty, and Tomorrow

This is Locke-speak. Lots of fired coaches were just fine in the locker room even while their teams lost. Ty will join their ranks.

    Tank, Ty, and Tomorrow

Playoff failures are definitely a knock against Karl. My opinion is he overachieved with all the teams he had, and very few starless teams have advanced to the finals. Defensively, I didn't watch his teams enough to opine, and I haven't looked up the stats, but I know he never had a Favors in...

    Tank, Ty, and Tomorrow

Few thoughts on the players, in order of most impressed: 1. Favors. The defense is obvious, the signs of an offensive player show up every game. He'll never be a PnR monster like healthy Stoudemire, but he's already better than Chandler. His contract is phenomenal. 2. Burks. Most...

    Tank, Ty, and Tomorrow

Karl's a great coach AND at the end of his career AND hasn't won a championship. My guess is he'll hold out for a more championship ready team. Even with a top pick, we're a project. That said, if the right offers aren't there and he has the itch, he could be seduced. I love Karl...

    Tank, Ty, and Tomorrow

I'll be scarce. No time for the daily, but lots of good posters here that I like to check in with as the season progresses. I'm usually behind, catching up on DVR, and this happens to be a rare moment when I'm up to date.

    Tank, Ty, and Tomorrow

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. Hire George Karl at the end of this. Doubt Karl would take the job, but try hard.

    Tank, Ty, and Tomorrow

Not much time to post, but I've lurked, watched the games, and I have a few thoughts. The Tank: I see some consternation about this, but I think Lindsey has this under control. First, he knew Ty wouldn't get anything out of this team and the recent "success" doesn't change that. Second...

Ouside the Box Idea for changing PG roles

Somebody has to be the primary ballhandler. That's the guy who gets the team into sets, reads defenses to exploit mismatches, can initiate offense when he has to, and initiates a lot of offense just because he can. Deron wasn't just great in our system, he created points on the floor when the...
