What's new

1 and 0 we will go 2 and 0 tonight Game Thread!

For a preseason game, this was a nice win for the Jazz. The Jazz had too many turnovers but they hung in there albeit against the second unit. Last year the Jazz got blown out after winning their first preseason game. I thought the starters played too long but perhaps Quin is wanting the starters to get more experience running his offense.

Jazz were sloppy during the game especially Hayward, Kanter and Favors. Trey looks light years better than last year. The best thing about Trey is that he isn't afraid to take the big shot. Not only isn't he afraid but the majority of times he makes them.
Love.. did I say love the balance from the starters.
Just want people to realize that Exum is SOO.. YOUNG and inexperience. I think he is playing the perfect role off the bench. 20 minutes a game is just about right. As the season goes and he gets more comfortable, he will be great. It is going to take a few years for his body to be NBA ready.

I was surprised how many guys didn't play last night. Despite Lillard not playing and the Jazz playing their starters longer than Portland it is still nice to see all the positives. When was the last time the Jazz got #1,#2, #4 of the top 5 highlights on NBA. NEVER, heck when have they ever shown three Jazz highlights.
All our starters had good game minus the turnovers. Now the Jazz need to get the bench going. I think Booker and Gobert are a part of that rotation. I am hoping that Hood is going to show he can play well off the bench. Novak is going to be a situational guy. Jazz are going to need to strength their bench. Hopefully Hood and someone else steps up.

1 thing I don't like about Burks is that he doesn't shoot enough 3's. He can shoot, so he needs to look for that shot a little more. 37 minutes played and 0 3-point attempts shouldn't happen in Quin's system.

Did you see the game? I didn't see it, so this is a sincere question if you did - did he pass up any threes?

While it seems like he should take threes in a Snyder offense, have we really seen enough of Snyder's offense with this team to know if it's that egregious for him to not take threes? Keep in mind, Hayward just took one three. The Jazz only took 14 threes and 10 of them were taken by the two PGs. I guess my point is, maybe the long distance shots simply weren't there for non-PGs in this game.

I doubt that. Hayward has the same problem, to a lesser extent, of being gun shy from deep. It's something that was a problem for Burks last year too.

A 20-something win team the year before, a new coach, a new system, young players...

For the Jazz there is no such thing as the starters playing too much in the preseason. That's the kind of talk reserved for teams like the Spurs. For the Jazz, we need to develop our team identity and establish our team culture every chance we get.

The fact that Quin knows he needs to play his starting squad as much as possible before the season starts, and that he's not looking to develop this team from the fringe inward..well it tells me he's not Ty Corbin. That's for damn sure.

Every hear, we hear buzz about how teams assure training camp fodder that they will get some playing time to up their visibility. The Jazz have not been following that pattern this year. I wonder if they offered something else instead?

I agree with you (surprise surprise). I am thrilled that Q is already fine tunning his regular season rotation. Most of the others were signed for D League anyways.

Yeah, like a front row seat to greatness.
