Loss to Lakers was worth at least 4% chance at getting a top 3 pick (29.5% chance if 4/5/6 combinations are split 3 ways and a 33.5% chance if just 4/5 are split). A loss to Minny increases Utah's chance of moving up at least one spot to 37.8%.

Of course didn't we have the 4th spot in 2005 before the lottery dropped Utah to #6?

That's true! However, If we would have lost we would be in a tie for 4th-6th position with the Lakers and Celtics and would be counting on a coin flip for positioning. If we lost the coin flip and ended in 6th position then we could actually drop all the way down to 8th with our pick.
