What's new

2011 draft.....

From a non buy fan/not from Utah prospective I just want to say that the rest of the nation loves the guy. He is the only superstar in the NCAA. Is he really just not going to translate? I have not seen enough, but what ihave seen is Stephen curry redux. If he even makes it to the second pick, would he really not be worth it? I agree with green though. He makes it to even elite eight and he will be a top 10 lock, maybe higher.

Shooting range - he is unmatched. The questions are: Can he defend anyone? Can he play in a system where he isn't the focal point? And finally, how will he perform when guarded by players that are better than anyone he has faced all year? Dropping 50 on NM and playing against NBA backups are two completely different games. The tourney will help answer that question. If he struggles, he is in a lot of trouble.

Fredette's game will have to adapt in the Pros. Some of his moves are NBA ready and some aren't. I see Fredette as a good player in the League but not a great one.

Brandon Knight Revisted

I spent some time reviewing every that is known about Brandon Knight.

He is a good athlete and a big guard at 6'3" or 6'4" that can shoot the ball. He isn't a world class finisher like Westbrook or Rose. He is a very coachable kid. There are questions about his ability to pass in the ball in Kentucky's system. But that system isn't conducisive to assist stats.

Assuming we don't make the playoffs, I would like him a lot with our 1st round pick. (Not NJ's).

I like Nolan Smith better they are the same size and combo gards. Smith is a better playmaker. Knight is somewhat of a chucker. Smith has the intangibles to be a good leader with a lot of tenacity, something that is seriously lacking on this team. The main reason the Jazz should draft him over knight is and I can't stress this enough HE CARES ABOUT DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing about Nolan Smith is that he is a senior so what you see is basically what you will get. On the other hand Knight was one of the top high school recruits along with Harrison Barnes. Considering his stats are not far off Smith's already being a freshman, Knight has much more upside and can become a star. That's what you look for in a lottery pick.

Which is why we get so many busted picks.
A pick based on potential is risky, you can hit it out of the park... but there are good odds you hit into a 6-4-3 doubleplay.
(I can do this now because wint..... spring training has started.)
It's like playing the stock market.... it's like playing roulette.... it's like a box of chocolates..... it's like picking your nose.

The Jazz should draft Derrick Williams and give him jersey #8. He would immediately be the leader in jerseys worn in Utah.

That would be just to confusing. Does this DWill have any horrible tats as well to identify him?

Ford's take on Brandon Knight:

Drew (Wichita, KS)

With 2-3 solid tournament games, do you see Brandon Knight as a lottery pick? It seems like he would lean towards leaving anyway since its a weak draft, and arguably the best HS PG is coming to UK next season...

Knight has had an interesting journey. Scouts were high on him coming out of high school, cooled off a bit early when he struggled to really run the team. Lately he's been better and in the past week I've heard scouts refer to him as a potential lottery pick again. He's a tweener, but his size, shooting ability and defense have scouts convinced he could probably play both positions at the next level. Probably goes somewhere between 10 and 20.
