I've read scouting reports about this guy's lack of effort and already thinks he's "the man." If those are true... And at nearly 7 feet tall, a pathetic 225 lbs, and only 18 years of age, I'd be pretty nervous with the Jazz taking him with one of their lotto picks

I'd guess this guy is going to be put him into the same category as Whiteside. A risky bigman that will be taken after the first 20 picks. Perhaps he'll even slip out of the entire 1st round...

Help me get excited about T. Jones. I only watched him in the tourney and wasn't that impressed. But in contrast, his season stats are impressive.
As some have characterized him, he did appear a little "stupid" on the court. Does he play smart or not? Granted, I only watched him play a few games but that small sample size left me thinking he only rarely made an impact on the game and generally was invisible. And yet his stats make me a liar.

So anyway, gush about him. Why do you like him?

I only saw him a few times. I think a lot of it has to do with

A. He's only a Freshman and looks pretty darn polished. Showing off skills that many players take years to develop. Heck, even AK and Iggy are still trying to develop a move other than a dunk in this league. While only being a fresh, he posses great size (244 lbs) If he were to stay another year or two he'd probably end up being a top 3 pick.
B. He can score in a variety of ways. This is probably what people like the most out of him. He can be a playmaker, a perimeter shooter, and post up. Again, for only a fresh, he's got a pretty good handle, a good motor (decision making could improve), and a pretty good shot.

I think that if he were drafted today he'd probably end up starting as our SF and probably wouldn't suck. Better offensive game than Evans and probably more of a SF than Millsap... Obviously better than CJ.... Probably a better overall shooter and finisher than AK. But might commit stupid fouls/turnovers (which... I guess AK does plenty of too).

Jones is a nice prospect. I wouldn't mind taking him at all with one of our picks.

So unless Jan Vesely is a can't miss prospect, I'd rather pass.

If we go after a SF, I'd rather go after a more proven, fundamentally sound, and physically "tougher" prospect like Leonard or T. Jones.

If Dunleavy wouldn't have gotten hurt he would've been a very good player in the NBA. I wouldn't have minded him on my team. Same with Batum, he's a good player. Also Ariza wasn't known as a good shooter coming out of college, he was a skinny, tall athletic player. So basically what I'm saying is that we don't know how these players are going to develop, which is why if you're going to go for somebody with potential, make sure they also have a work ethic.

/I don't like Vesely either.
 
Terrance Jones has no chin. Does anyone have the stats of chin-less NBA players? Can they succeed in today's game?

I need to explain to you why it is stupid to say that because Biyombo is from Africa the Salt Lake-based Jazz have a better chance re-signing him than if he were from West Virginia (or other origin stories of the "DWill-type")?

Do I really need to explain that to you Mr. Serpico? I hope you don't teach anything resembling a social science or humanities class.

Here's what's wrong (in a nutshell): EVERYTHING.

Vesely runs the floor well, and has the tools to develop a reliable jumpshot. And, he is NBA-style athletic. That is all you can say about the guy. These attributes don't make him a #6 pick, IMO. But if he falls to #10, then somebody will have pretty good value on their pick.

Very good points.

I think someone needs to also consider the potential costs of those foreigners.

How many of them have buyouts? Are they expensive? Can they come over for this NBA season or are they going to be stashed for a year or two? How's their understanding of the English language?

The college players meanwhile don't have these question marks.

For the Jazz, a team already strapped for cash in a small market struggling to survive, we need to consider the potential costs of these foreign projects.... We cannot "screw up" this draft and not get anything that will immediately help us. Otherwise, we're going to be in for another tough season next year.
