2012 Draft: Predraft Camps & Workouts

iirc, Kanter didn't decline, he delayed .. but I don't remember the circumstances.

I believe a big part of it, atleast the 'scandal' part was language related. Which I didn't believe at the time, but after listening to a few Kanter interviews this year I understand. Somebody needs to get the guy the audio book of american idioms, it would help him immensely.

Can't believe I missed this:

Yannis Koutroupis: BYU forward Noah Hartsock is working out for the Utah Jazz on the 16th.

KOC talks to Locke from Chicago.

I didn't think there was anything new, but still a good listen.

Highlights: Jazz have 4 young players, may not want to add more youth.

Jazz look for 'toughness' (maybe too much?)

Mentions scouting players that may not be the focal point of the team or the offense (does anyteam other than UNC, Duke or Kentucky have role players worth scouting?)

scouting in the areana you can see body language, how the guy runs to the huddle, does he take coaching, who shows up early to warm up, -things you can't see on tape.

Jazz get to interview 18 draftees wouldn't tell Locke who they are interviewing. (If I remember from previous years-The jazz put in requests and the league assigns players to the jazz, some of the players the Jazz request will not be made availabe to them, some players the Jazz didn't request will be assigned to the Jazz.)

Teams with multiple picks will really impact the draft.

Well if this is true then I really see little chance of the Jazz being contenders. The draft is the best way the Jazz can build a contender because the Lebron James, Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant are never going to choose Utah as free agency destination. Besides the fact that the Jazz need more TALENT regardless.

I agree, mostly. I've been saying for about a year now that I believe we can attract a near superstar (Lebron, no) to Utah if we are truly only missing that one piece to be a real contender. I think the Jazz HAVE to assemble their 4 out of 5 best players (not being overly literal there) through the draft and can add the last piece via FA.

So if I understand you correctly, the Jazz should go all out on this "retool" this offseason and then next year when they have enough money for a max worthy player then make the pitch and that that person?

I don't play much armchair because I don't pretend to know all the factors .. but what I'm really saying is that I believe the Jazz will take this next year bringing the young core along a bit more than last, continue to clear space, and then add a near-max PG through FA ... and become a legitimate threat.

That sounds like a good plan to me. Get everything in place then bring in some superstars and show them the set up.

If the Jazz can just work out a Jefferson for Iggy trade or get a MKG/Beal/(gulp)Barnes in the draft and also move Jefferson (aka the ball stopper) then I can see some top notch player seriously considering coming to Utah to play with this core and lay the smack down on some teams.

Exactly.

That was for you PKM. I am still wishy washy on Barnes. Like I have said before, he will play a long time in the league, and he will help to spread the floor but I have a hard time seeing him ever make an all-star team.

Aren't Beal and Barnes shooters? If so why not one of them and Iggy? Then bring in Nash to lead them all.

They are shooters. My thought is that players of their ability would help to open things up for everyone else. I think that Beal and MKG are much more talented than Barnes but you cannot deny that Barnes can hit the open jumper.

I honestly believe that Barnes should just make a career out of the corner three. He should always be on one side or the other getting ready to take that shot.
