While Dres has been brutal and did single handedly cost Utah a win in regulation tonight, it can't be ignored that Utah lacks a forward passing game across the board. Take Dres out of the equation. I don't think it's too much to ask for this offense to be able to hit on at least 50% of some quick hit, 5 and 10 yard patterns and keep a defense somewhat honest.
They better get their **** together because Booker ain't going for 200+ against USC. Don't get me wrong, this win was gritty as hell and I couldn't be more proud but it's gonna take a better passing game for Utah to do anything special. The crazy thing is, Booker, the defense, and special teams are so good, that if this team could just find a way to produce 175-200 yards passing per game, they'd have a chance to win any game left on the schedule.
Quick hitters, huh? Like Scott's two drops last week? Clay's drop over the middle last week? Tonga's drop over the middle tonight? Dres's drop tonight that was tipped and then intercepted? For whatever reason, we can't catch. The plays are there. The play calls are there. Everyone else executes. All of those balls are hitting the receivers in the hands/chest. They aren't catching the ball.
If the receivers catch the ball, especially Dres, we are the #6 team in the country right now.
It's pretty simple. We just need someone to catch the ball.
Heck, I'd even say the problem isn't Wilson or Thompson. If we could catch the ball, we would win with either one back there.
Just catch the ball.
