2014 Free Agent Market

Like, if we draft Jabari, then that leaves us with:

Burke/Neto
Burks/Hayward
Hayward/Marv/Jabari
Jabari/Marv/Favors
Favors/Kanter/Gobert

Hayward can get Luol production on offense (probably not the defense though), we'll need to hopefully pick a nice 3andD player with the GS pick if we plan on continuing to bring Burks off the bench.

To me, that's a pretty nice roster to move forward with next year, depending on if we have a good coach or not.

I like lowry but probably too expensive and i want to see what trey can do

I'd be furious. We have a rookie PG averaging 13/5/3 (aka pretty close to Rookie DWill numbers), and he'll probably end up as 2nd on the ROTY rankings.

Ya i agree.
Still like lowry though. Just not for us

LOVE that lineup!
Bring garrett back too

I would target Shaun Livingston. He has played great this year. Brooklyn can only offer him only 3.1 million. I like Garrett and I don't think Neto is coming over next year. Livingston can play both the PG/SG. I like Parsons from Houston but he is restricted.

The rest of the group are either too old and not the same player they use to be or want too much money i.e. Deng, Granger, Gasol etc. This is not the best year for 2nd tier players. I would love it if we could get Lebron to consider us. Wait not going to happen. ;)

Parsons probably won't be a FA this year.

Houston can either exercise an option that will make him a RFA this year, and deal with being heavily over the cap after signing him. Or they can keep him for an extra year at his 880K (or whatever it is, super cheap) and he will become a UFA for that year.

Not 100% certain on their $$$ situation, but they are paying max to Howard and Harden, and a good chunk of money to Lin and Asik (lol at all that wasted money). I'd assume matching a Parsons deal that would probably be in the 10 million range would put them into the LT if they aren't able to unload Asik or Lin.

Are Hack and I the only ones that like Deng? Depending on the money he demands and who we pick in the draft, I think he would fit really well in a lot of ways.

I like him but the fact he hasn't helped Cleveland at all has scared me off. His lack of offensive skills and potentially high price tag doesn't help either.

Personally, I'd be targeting a scorer with free agency. I'd say that if we draft a SF/PF, and we re-up Hayward with Marv, then there's no point in Luol really.

Ideally, I'd hang onto Hayward and Marv, draft the best scorer in the draft, get a new coach, and bring in Neto. That's pretty much the offseason I'd try to have if I was the GM.

Deng > Marv
He'll cost more, but it'll be worth it.

If we draft Jabari or Wiggins (i.e. a first-option scorer), then I hope we add a couple of defensive specialists. Something like Aminu and Sefolosha (who's having an off-year... hmmm). Favors will anchor our defense down low, but we sorely need some perimeter defenders... guys who can guard 1-3. One of them should be on floor at all times.

Marv in a contract year is a lot diff than Marv any other year, IMO.

I think its safe to say that Trey is legit. Certainly good enough to be our point guard. Im not really sure why there are still doubters. He has looked great this year.

Not necessarily. Compare this year to Marv's last with Atlanta.

His previous year with the Jazz was definitely the 'aberration' of his career-- not this year, where he is pretty much in-line with all of his career averages, save for three-point percentage. Also, the dude is 27-- hoards of vets slowly improve their three-point percentage over the course of their careers

I don't think you'll find anyone disagreeing with you here.

I just find it unrealistic being able to Keep Deng AND Hayward AND Burks AND Favors/Kanter/Burke/incoming lottery pick.

To me, I feel like if we go for Deng, then we won't be re-signing Hayward-- which is fine if our franchise decides to go in that direction, but personally I'd rather have Hayward than Deng (just personal preference, I'm sure that some could argue that Deng is the better player).

Hence, if we want to keep Hayward, it makes sense to hang onto a decent defending player who can play the 3 and the 4, likes the city, and probably won't demand a huge contract.

Yes-- as I said earlier today, we should target a 3andD player with our GS pick if possible.

Agreed. Who are those guys? I don't have a lot of faith in any 3&D prospects in that range, but my knowledge is limited.

Payton should be able to guard 1s and 2s... but his shot needs work.
K.J. Daniels should be able to guard 2s and 3s... but, again, his shot needs work.
Do we take a risk on Hairston?

I think the worst thing the Jazz can do is over pay for a FA this year. This year a lot of crap players will get way too high of offers (Hayward included). We have flexibility. No need to waste it by paying a role player big money.

3&D prospects can often be had at that range (remember Jimmy Butler??), it's just a matter of scouting for them-- personally, I am extremely behind when it comes to following draft prospects this year, so I would have to cede this to someone who has followed college ball more than myself this year.

I do like Payton, actually.

I know nothing about KJD, and I think (if I was GM) i'd roll the dice and pick up Hairston. Personally, I think he's gonna be picked up by a team like Miami, OKC, Indiana, or something like that.

So yeah, who knows. I have tried to watch Kyle Anderson every now and then-- and despite the dude being able to pad the stat sheet with blocks/steals, sometimes he just gets left in the dust by a speedy SG. Still, I would love to try and trade up with the GS pick to get KA, or at least pray that he falls to us. I can't see the latter happening, as I anticipate UCLA might be going a little far in this tourney.
