2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

If all it took to get Porter was expirings we should have done it in a heart beat. I'm hopeful that the Wiz for some reason see Parker as a real asset. Otherwise we are idiots for not beating that offer.

You think they'd be nuts to pick up his $20mm option though.

These types of comments solidify how underrated Favors is and what he provides for this team. Sure there's a case to be made that a stretch 4 could be a better fit (I'm skeptical defensively and about our backup C minutes), but to just be sick of a good, productive player on the team is selling him so short.

Favors is a great dude and great player. But he doesn't help us where we need help in the playoffs. If we had Conley and Lowry, you would trade one to improve the team elsewhere. Having 2 good centers does us no good when we need it most.

DL is in a position of power in the Conley talks. Raptors, Pacers and Pistons all seem to be out. Chris Wallace can't possibly let the deadline pass without dealing Gasol and Conley.

Seems to be a staring contest right now between DL and Wallace to see who will blink first. And Wallace doesn't have any tricks to make DL blink.

How?

Parker = Favors (both team options for next year)
Portis = What on our roster? He's a moderately promising RFA. Who do the Jazz have to match that? Tony Bradley? I guess you could put up Grayson (and I theorize the Jazz may be holding him as the last offer for Memphis if they dont budge), but Utah clearly values him.
2nd rounder = Jazz could have matched

So it looks like it came down to the Bulls offering a young RFA and Utah probably didnt want to. Cant say I blame them if there are cheaper options out there who dont eat that much of your cap.

While we're beating ourselves up over Porter, remember that the Kings were also supposedly in the mix for him and might have even been able to trump our offer. It's curious that they weren't a player there.

Maybe the Wizards just valued Portis and thought the chance at trying out Jabari was better. They certainly fit the "go young but try to stay relevant" model.

Well, Favors is actually good at basketball unlike the two traded, so that's a big one (re-route somewhere else for a pick of some sort or whatever). Portis/Parker suck.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Porter deal was spur of the moment. The Jazz and many other teams may not have even known. Porter was warming up to play against the Bucks on ESPN when he was told for crying out loud lol. So the Wizards coaching staff didn't have any idea. Seems like it came together fast.

I would have offered our 1st round pick for Porter. That should easily beat a young RFA.

Its not a big one when they dont plan on keeping Parker or Favors long-term.
